DFTowel, lint and Qd'ing

I remember reading here that folks really like the DF towel for QD work. I bought some last year and they are really nice. I wonder if I am doing something wrong though or am I being to critical. Anyway, I pre-washed the towels when I got them. Liquid tide, with just other MF's, rinse with some white vinegar, and air dry. I washed the car today w/ gold class QD w/ quick shine. There is a fresh coat of S100. When sitting in the drivers seat, If I kind of look down the hood I can see white lint. Again, if I have to slouch down in my seat and look down the hood, maybe i'm being a bit unrealistic :D And to think, I almost got the E55 in black. Beautiful, but I would have gone crazy, if i'm staring at a bit of lint from every angle with silver!

E55. You should be blasting down some freeway at 180 mph

and laughing at some poor guy eating you lints in your

rear-view mirror.



Actually I am envious. I tried to convince my dear wife last year I

needed one of those cars. She laughed in my face.

She told me she could not see me handling a 470 hps car.

(since most of the time I bike to work at lowly 10 mph)

She suspected that

I am only getting the car to attract some loose babes. (hmmm...

perhaps she knows me better than myself).

Perhaps I could get her to budge if we could get one at invoice.

(locally the new ones are being sold at close to

$100,000)



Seriously, I gave up trying to keep my MF (I guess you

can only use this term at Autopia) lint free. I washed them

with everything else to conserve water.
 
Sometimes it takes a couple of washings to get all the shedding (lint) out of any towel. You should also dry them in the dryer, this helps get rid of errant fibers. Wash them seperate from anything else, you may be picking something up from the other towels you say you washed them with. As long as you keep all your towels seperate from household towels or clothing you will be fine.
 
cte500 . . could it be lint and other stuff in the environment being attracted to your car ???



I've noticed that after I apply a carnuba my car becomes a dust magnet big time. I can see the stuff from a far being sucked to the surface!!!

Thanks Leo, are you saying I should wash my MF's separately from other MF's. My wife is going to freak :D I'll try them in the dryer. Hot or warm?

carweenie, 100K is way to much unless it has every option under the sun! In my area you'll pay sticker, and this was the 5th car I bought from these guys. It's funny you tried to get your wife to go for it. I've had my E55 for only a few weeks. I had an '03 E500 for about a year, and about a month ago I decided I really wanted the AMG. I figured it would take a few months to "sell" my wife. I'm persuasive but low key. You know, bring it up in conversation, leave pics around etc. Anyway, I brought it up, and it didn't go over big. The next day we were in Toys R Us with my seven and nine year old and I brought It up again. Still, tough resistance! I looked at her with a very serious look and said, "if I don't get that car, I'll die". She cracked up, called me an idiot and said OK! I already knew (you think I didn't shop this first!)that there was a car on the water due to hit the dock the next week. Called my sales guy and told him it was a go. this actually got my wife really pissed, because she thought I made the deal first before talking to her about it. She's still kinda mad, but she'll get over it. The car is awesome, and I love it.

I've gotten some linting from DF Towels when using it for QEW, but not usually with QD. Anyway, it's always been longer thread lint that just barely sits on the paint. I can blow it all off with just my breath, or by just pulling the car out of the garage. IMO, that's much preferrable to the short lint from other MF's that really lay flat/stick and are hard to get off the car. :nixweiss



I dry my DF's, and wash them with my other MF's. But they are 1-2 years old now I think, so the linting really isn't unexpected, and it is not a lot of linting.
 
I am sure it is an awesome car (envy, envy...).



I thought the E55 already came with almost everything standard

(air suspension, drive-dynamic seat, 4 zone climate, etc. I guess one

of the most expensive option is probably the NAV system. Wasn't

too impressed with MB's NAV system. Had one and used it for

a grand total of 3 times. $2000 / 3 = $666 per use - ouch!

Perhaps the new DVD-based system is much better.)



Now, you gave me the thought. Perhaps, I should sneak back

to the dealership this afternoon to see if a 2004 can be had for the sticker.



Naw, I still don't think "She who must be obeyed" will go for it.

Asked for a 50' flat screen TV for last Christmas. She thought I was senile since I don't watch much TV anyway. She threatened to give

me a pair of bifocals instead (ha, I don't think I need one for

another 5-7 years). Dang women - they are too rational.



Must be difficult to keep your car clean with a pair of kids that

age. I also have two the same ages as yours. Man, I can't

believe the amount of chaos they can generate. Just spent this morning

cleaning up the cars. (took bunch of kids to a fieldtrip in the

country yesterday and they left a big mess in my backseat.

It looked like a cow barn! - c'est le vie).
 
It does come with those options, but there is still a ton of stuff you can add on. Distronic, keyless go, integrated phone plus much, much more. Those 3 items right there will add almost 6K to the price. You should not have to pay more than MSRP now. There are some dealers in California who I hear will actually go below sticker. The new DVD NAV is much better than their old one. The Japanese still have it all over the Germans when it comes to NAV, but I really like it. Plus it's only $1,200. As far as the kids, they know how to behave in that car! Plus I also have a Ford Taurus as a company car that is like a rolling garbage can!

You bet, and even odder to have to drive it! Actually, if it weren't for the Taurus I would have never gotten the E55. I'm in sales and had always gotten a car allowance instead of a co. car. I'm into cars way to much, and would prefer to drive what I want. But, this past March I was forced to take the Taurus and I was dreading it. All my friends were making fun of me, and the thought of keeping my E500 in the garage was killing me. But you know what, It turned out to be great. I'm in Manhattan a lot, which will absoultely kill your car. So the idea of having a garage queen started to grow on me. It made me realize that my Benz would never see the rain, snow, etc. if I didn't want it to. So, I thought, why not get the E55, since I don't have to worry about it being in the city, and I could really take care of it. So, I guess you could say I parlayed a Taurus into an E55 AMG. Much to my wife's displeasure!
