DF Towel - User Opinions Wanted

I'm considering ordering a pack of DF towels (DF Concours products)
and would like to hear from current users regarding:

- Pro's & Con's vs. Microfiber
- Uses
- How to wash/dry
- Durability
- Have you noticed any marring (more / less) vs. other towels?
- Do you have to fold the towel / avoid edges?
- Performance on black paint

I'm considering them for:
-QD
-Removing LSP
-I'm remotely considering them for drying (blot drying) duties

Not to take this off tack, but my understanding is that Leo's towels ARE Microfiber it's just that he uses a natural fiber Vs. a manmade one. see the definition on his website The DF Concourse Towel

Other than thatI have not have a chance to try hs product

I have about 15 of the DF towels....best towel going...

I use it for QDing and sealant removal and buffing...

I wash with Tide clear and air dry...could use dryer on lowest heat.

My oldest one is 3 years old and still very good ...

I get less marring with these than any MF towel...they are silky smooth...

I fold..but not afraid of edges...this whole towel was built on quality..

I have used on Black trucks and my Red truck and never seen any marring or added marring...

They do snag on emblems and such..when it snags it pulls out a thread..I just cut the snag off..no harm to performance....

these are by far best towels I own...they seem to nice to use on a car..lol...

they feel like silk and never feel grabby on paint they just glide on it

ps..they are a micro fiber..but made of cotton I believe..

I just ordered a 6 pack of the 19.5 x 19.5 towels. (ha, I must trust your opinion LOL).

Do you have a size/towel preference from DF?

Have you every used these as drying towels?

Do you wash them with your other MF's or separate?

I'm glad to hear about the edges -because I can be careless at times and don't want something that I HAVE to fold in the edges. I've had towels like this before and they got demoted to jams & wheels.

I wash with my MF towels..but not with the real dirty MF's...

I would not use these for door jams...engine compartment work...or any real dirty work..they are to nice for that..lol

I have the 19x19's also..and 1 large one 36x20...for drying...

they do dry paint nice....easy to wring out also...


you will enjoy them...

Ya I would use the DFtowel before a synthetic microfiber plus he has discounted his towels by 20% permanately and then get a six pack like MGM did and get another 20% off do not forget discount code another 5% off:cool:
 
I just recently purchased a few of these towels and all I have to say is . . . WOW!! These are far and away the softest towels I've ever felt. I don't just mean detailing towels they are the softest towels I've ever felt PERIOD.

These towels make short work of removing even the toughest wax/polish/sealant residues. Yet, they are still so soft that they don't induce marring.

The down side is that they do snag fairly easily. The other complaint I have about them is that you can't use them straight out of the package. They are filled with loose fiber from the manufacturing process and you need to wash them before the first use.

Thanks guys, my head is swelling from all the praise! Actually the reason I'm responding here is due to the above statement. This has actually to do with ANY towel you buy from ANY supplier! The reason we recommend pre-wash is less because of lint and more because of the dangers of "alien" particles that could adhere to the towels and damage your paint.

ANY towels from ANY factory run this danger, think about it, the fabric is shipped from the fabric mill by truck, plane, whatever, the fabric is handled at the sewing facility, the towels are handled by any number of operators, they are shipped all over the world... in all these travels the fabric picks up any number of evil things as well as oils from hands and machinery. Any of these evil deposits can damage your paint so... ALWAYS WASH BEFORE USE! It's better to be safe than sorry.

Good point Leo. I only mentioned it because there seemed to be more loose fiber than other towels which I have bought in the past. I hope no one really construed this as a negative. You wash the towel and poof the fibers are gone. It was only a negative to me because I couldn't wait to use these great towels. :yay

Funny you brought that up....I used a new towel the other day...was washed and I was wiping down the truck and I heard..Screeeeech..I picked the towel up to see a pile of fine white dust...at the end of a 2 foot scratch..was clear coat dust

I looked at the towel and found a 1/2 inch of a broken sewing needle entwined in the fabric...lucky the scratch was not deep and buffed out no problem....

it was not a DF towel so do not worry..lol....

A wash would not of helped here..lol....maybe a metal detector...

Now I really check my towels...the towel was very plush...and the needle was in the weave...

You won't regret it. These towels absolutely blow away any other towel I've tried.

I agree 100% with Mike...these are the ONLY towel I can say that are worth the asking price...plus you will not find any one with a towel like this other than who Leo has selling them...at least I have not...

and best part is...Made In U.S.A....

one other thing I forgot to point out...I used a dedicated MF cleaner on them once..and noticed they do not come out as silky as when you use a regular detergent like Tide clear or Era free..the MF cleaner may be to strong..do not know....

Thanks for the tip! I definitely want to read the care page on the DF Towel website.

The DF Hose Nozzle also looks really interesting. I like that it only takes half a turn to go through all the spray patterns. My current fireman's nozzle takes many many turns and doesn't go all the way to a jet spray pattern.
 
I agree with most of the comments here. My observations are based on the earlier version of the product. I understand that there is a more current verion out since my purchases.

The Concours towel is a quality product.

It is a microfiber product manufactured from a natural vs synthetic yarn.

Laundering: Leo states you can wash his towels in HOT water. I wash mine along with my other MF towels in warm water with a microfiber specific cleaner or Charlie's soap. I know what Leo's beliefs are about this (specific detergents/soaps), but my experience proves otherwise. I have also washed them with regular cotton/terry towels in hot water with Charlie's soap (actually a couple of different detergents). Damp dry. No problems with either method.

The loose weave does create more snags caused by emblems, etc., but as directed I trim those closely with scissors and move on.

I use my towels for either a) dusting ala CCD or b) QD duty. These towels don't see much heavy usage so they have been around awhile. I find them to be a below average towel option for drying. I believe that long ago Leo mentioned that you needed to slow way down in your drying motion to allow for absorbtion.

As far as value, I would say that they are of good value, however thay are certainly not the only good value out there. When I purchased my DFT products they did stand head and shoulders above what was commonly available. Since that time however, the current series of towels from AG, DC, and PB have emerged and definitely closed that gap.
