Dewalt Polisher

Has anyone tried the DeWalt 443 as a replacement for the Porter Cable 7424? It is a sander but it has the velcro backer that a polishing or buffing pad could be attached to.

You might want to try again. Dewalt 443 brought up 4 threads and several posts about the Dewalt compared to the Porter Cable.

What am I doing wrong? I even copied and pasted Dewalt 443 from your post, Charles, and the only thing it shows me is my own post. Can someone please post alink to the old thread?

Hey Intel, the only real difference I see between the 2 is that the speed range for the Dewalt is a little narrower and higher. Do you ever wish yours would go a little slower or is speed the king? Also, the Dewalt is yellow, which I think looks really cool!:D
 
The DeWalt also has almost one amp more power than the PC if I remember right.



EDIT: Err, make that half an amp more! :D

I only use it to apply wax to paint and never run it on its lowest setting. It is almost too slow to apply an even coat of wax. I run it around speed 3. Can apply an even, thin coat of wax quickly. I am using a really thick wax though, Pro's Stain Creme. The DeWalt does go slow enough to apply thin waxes w/o splatter.
 
I was going to ask the same question about the opm range. What if I was only planning to use it for SMR? All of my other tools are DeWalt, and given that it comes with the velcro backing plate the difference in price really isn't too bad (about $20 or so). Never having used one though, I didn't know if the slower speeds were ever useful.

Some people use the slowest speeds for applying wax.



For polishing though, then you are gonna want the OPMs. I believe in the past I had a thread where I took out 2000 grit sandpaper marks with the DeWalt. Worked great and the paint was crystal clear afterwards. I ran it on the highest speed the whole time.



Like I said in the above reply, even when applying wax I don't run my the DeWalt on the slowest speeds so it does go slow enough for applying wax.
