Detailing the hood with bug deflector on

The bug deflector on car is separated from the hood with 4 3M bumpons. I can easily remove the deflector when I wash the car but when it comes time to wax the car (this weekend  ) should I just wax around the bumpons?

What do you guys/gals do in this situation? The bumpons are not impossible to remove but it the deflector stays on for the life of the car, should one remove the bumpons when waxing?

Will the paint look different after a few years of waxing (or polishing) around the bumpons? Like I said, if the bumpons will stay on the car for a long time, should I even bother removing them when detailing.

Please share your experience.

I've detailed a bronco recently, a 1996 that had those on the hood from the bug guard. I removed them and the paint under them was newer then the surrounding paint. I had to wet sand to help hide the difference. Turned out fine.
