Detailing plastic bumpers

What do you guys use to polish up bumpers? I have a PC and a makita rotary. I know the PC is safe for bumpers but do you guys use a rotary to do bumpers as well? if so, what speed do you buff at? Don't really want to buff off the paint as the bumper is plastic.

I use a rotary with a wool pad and compound. The wool runs cooler than foam on plastic parts (bumpers, rocker panels, etc). I keep the rpm at 1,000 - 1,200 and use a variety of compounds to achieve the results I need. If the front bumper is peppered with stone chips, I'll wetsand with 3M Trizact 3000 first.

Above all, take your time and don't stay in 1 area too long. You can touch the plastic with your wrist to see if the area is heating up and move to another area while it cools.

thanks for the reply. I did try to polish with some foam pads but ended up scorchin the paint on one of my plastic flares. It really ticked me off as I barely touched it and it just went. The speed was where you would keep the rpm. I did keep the rotary moving as well...i guess it just heated up faster than I thought.

I touched up a BMW bumper with the rotary and it was ok...I was just afraid to turn up the polisher with the foam pad for fear of flaking off the paint. I guess I will give the wool pads a try on the bumper.
