Detailing around factory emblems

What have you found is the best tool for cleaning/waxing around the factory(not dealer installed) emblems. CHEVROLET has the most offending one I think with alot of crannys to get into. Do you just not put wax inbetween these letters or what?

Certain sealants might be a little more forgiving around emblems than traditional waxes. Some detailers just use blue painters tape over the emblems. I suppose after a full detail you could wax/seal the areas around the emblems as its own project. Perhaps applying and removing with cotton swabs would be helpful.
