Detailing and the weather (specifically rain)?

Am I wrong to feel bad if I detail a vehicle and then it rains within the next day or so? What do most of you guys do in a situation like that? Thanks for the input.

How can you help that? Are you suggesting that you turn the customer down? "I'm not going to detail your car today because it's going to rain tomorrow anyway"? I think the larger problem, if you're a pro, is the customer cancelling because it's going to rain the next day, and you losing your income. If you are just doing washes, I understand how you could be a little bummed that your wash job would get dirtied the next day, but if you're polishing a car that looks like crap, it's still going to look better in the rain the next day than it did before.

If the weather looks iffy, I give the customer a call and allow them to decide if they want me to go ahead and detail their car...like today. I need to call my late morning customer since it is supposed to rain tonight and into tomorrow morning. I am sure as long as she doesn't need to go anywhere before tomorrow afternoon she will tell me to come on out since she can just leave her car in the garage.

I'm presuming that doesn't happen to you too often, Scott? That you lose your appt. to the weather?

Until this past year, it happened a lot. We had 5 wetter than normal years, last year was the first dry one and I was up 12% or so over the prior year.

I always call and offer a free QD.........Customer service gentlemen, the fact you called and offered will far outweigh the inconvenience of a little rain, they'll remember your generous offer.

I agree - if you have the time to do so, definitely will gain brownie points with them for offering. If you're booked solid though, might be hard to fit into your schedule, and you're definitely not required to clean it for them. I'd probably offer if I had the time though. :)
