Did a Yukons engine bay detail today .. (well Jngr did) he just carefully avoided spraying anything electronic and kept the hose on 'low'.

All seemed well when we left.

when cleaning engines, do you have to cover every sensor and computer in the engine????????

YES!!!! The engine compartments of new cars/truck are a loaded with extremely sensitive electrical systems. Sure they use "waterproof" connectors etc, but the alternator, and fuse box etc... are all vunerable!! Better to be safe than sorry. Cover all electrical parts with plastic baggies and elastic bands. Concentrate any type of degreaser to the block and greasy areas only. Spray with water in a very prudent manner!!

My other brother (the other one owns a carpet cleaning company) works for GM and tells me various prices of electrical components on new cars. Trust me, you do not want to know!!!

I don't clean engines. In fact, all the brochures from local detailers that I collected state that they are not responsible for any engine malfunctions as a result of engine cleaning. My father had his engine cleaned and woud up needing $400 in electrical work done. The guy who did the detail has an excellent reputation. It seems too risky in my opinion.
