Detailers + the US Postal Service

Fellas,

I work as a supervisor at the USPS in Tarpon Springs FL and I wanted to tell you guys about a new program the PO has called EDDM. It stands for Every Door Direct Mail. Basically how it works is you call your local PO and have them send out a business agent to enroll you in the program (its free). Once signed up you can do direct mail mailings for the cost of 14.5 cents per mailpiece and up to 5000 per day.

The program is actually very intuitive and this is how it works:

1. So you want to target a specific neighborhood (around your shop or in an area where there is already a few of your customers)

2. It pulls up a map and you set the radius around the location (1 mile, 2 miles, etc)

3. Then it will highlight the routes in that area on the map and show you visually how many deliveries there are within the radius and the exact cost of your mailing.

It is very user friendly and our business agents will guide you through it and set it up for you for free. You pay nothing until you do a mailing which is 33 cents cheaper than first class.

Anyway, since I work for the PO and have a vested interest I figured I would tell you guys about it. Call your local post office and ask to speak to any supervisor and they should give you the number of the local business agent who can come to your place of business and show you how.

Anyone in the Tampa Bay area or surrounding area feel free to call me at work (727) 937-2207 and ask for George and Ill hook you up with our business agent.

Peace.

That sounds a lot better then the old program that was in place. Does this apply to postcards as well? Is there a different rate for postcards?

Any idea when the post office might start to do junkmail filtering? I'd pay a monthly fee to get just the real mail.

Here ya go Flash this is the pdf from usps.com http://www.usps.com/promotions/_pdf/eddm-smp-user-guide-051311.pdf#search='eddm'

Michael M,

I dont believe there is a different rate for postcards. However, this is 14.5 cents for a "flat" sized mailing. 8x11 or roughly the size of your average magazine (Sports Illustrated, etc) so you can fit much more information about your business.

Its a real good change for small business owners specifically like your local pizza places, salons, etc. The most succesful companies are linking their mailing to visit their website for a coupon etc.

Unfortunately no, there is no junk mail filtering. In all honesty, everything you buy nowadays with a credit card shows up somewhere in some advertisers computer. My brother works as a computer programmer and he says most of the time when you use your credit card to purchase ANYTHING what you bought, your address, etc is sent to someone down the line who will then start sending you a mailer with related items. Solution, start paying in cash for everything. :/

Thanks for the info. This is still cheaper then the previous bulk mail program.

Seems very similar to Canada Post's unaddressed admail program. It has worked VERY well for us here.
