I had a customer call me asking to come take a look at his 1988 Porsche 944 because it was dead and lifeless. He was on the fence of getting it repainted, but luckily a friend of mine mentioned that it could possibly buff out. I went and showed a few test spots using m105 by hand and 3 small areas turned into a full blown detail.

Procedure: washed using megs hyper wash

tires cleaned with eagle one wheel and tire cleaner

wheels cleaned with p21s gel

interior cleaned with megs quik interior spray

seats cleaned with leather masters strong cleaner then conditioned using megs leather cleaner conditioner

tires dressed with Black Magic matte tire shine

Polishing procedures:

Dewalt Rotary with maroon wool so1o pad and m86

Meguiars G100 with Surbuf pad and m105

""- with megs 3" microfiber system on the bumpers

""- with cyan hydro pad and m105

""- with tangerine hydro pad and m205

""- with CCS smart red pad and menzerna power lock

Hand with Griots Garage Best of Show carnuba

The 944 came looking like this:

This next picture is basically my test panel, i started out using my g100 with surbuf pad and m105:

Sadly, this was going at too slow of a pace and had to pick up the rotary to knock down the dead lifeless single stage

These are the results:

While i say i love the results on the car, i cant say the same about my pads, clothing, and garage floor. I am a new shade of pink, as is my floor, and several surbuf pads and hydro pads.

Enjoy!

Are you able to clean those pads? Or are they ruined?

ruined, not really. Though they are really red now, they are only stained. Technically a car with clear coat will do the same thing, only difference is you cant see the paint on the pad. The only way they are ruined is if you have to show future customers polishing technique, you dont want to have to show them with a really red pad on say a white car.

Pretty sweet! I've always been a little fond of those cars, even more so now. Thanks for sharing!

No problem, this car was fun to do, so i had to share.

Looks great.. I just hope the owner keeps up with it, as singe stage red will fade if not maintained.

Thanks guys. This one had like 168,000 miles and its a florida car that was never taken care of. But the owner now wants to take care of it and garage keep it for only the weekends, so i think it wont fade for a good while now.

Nice job, that's how 944s are supposed to look!

I've done several single stage guards red 944/928s and it is always nice to see how well the paint responds to deep polishing.
