Just a heads up for those planning to apply and waxes or sealants outdoors, pine tree pollen season is approaching. Had a fine layer on the cars this morning in NC. This will last for about a month. No waxing here...glad I did it last week. If you do plan to do it, the pollen falls heaviest earlier in the day, wait until late afternoon.

Down in Nawlins we have been in a pollen storm for a few weeks now.

Here's it on my truck

it's true. I've seen the first signs of pollen around here within the last couple weeks. Not only is it really bad for paint but also those who are sensitive to pollens, like me. It's the only part of Spring that I can't stand, so the quicker it happens the quicker it'll be over.

Pollens are very abrasive towards car finishes as well so be careful when washing or cleaning it off. Don't use the Cali Car Duster either.... It's better to hose it off and wash than risk quick removal.

Pollen is the second most vile word in the english language for those of us who meticulously 'spiffy' our rides. Nasty yellow scourge of the earth here in the southern latitudes(NC).

Combine that with the other vile four lettered word , m-i-s-t, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, a compulsive obsessive's nighhtmare

Cali duster save me!!! It'll be interesting how my various QD sprays will allow the pollen to slide off. I'll keep youse posted.:xyxthumbs

I thought it was just me! I hate that pollen, I have to clean my windsheild every single day! I hose down the tree's, but it only temporary help until the water drys

LOL!!! That's got to be the funniest thing I've heard all day.

That's actually a pretty good (& funny) idea. But I'd need a pretty strong hose to reach up 80 feet. Thankfully it's raining today (feels strange to say that)!!

that's what SOME of you southerners get for making fun of the snowbirds up north all winter long :sosad

My 2

Fan off the pollen with a nice feather duster.

[ just missing the paint surface as you fan ]

You good at it after a while. Most of the pollen is removed.

Then CD and detail the rest of the way like you normally would.

Yhea, but atleast we can wash our cars all winter and not have to worry about the water freezing :D

Detailed Elegance - 2010 Metallic Black Buick Enclave

I have had this customer scheduled for a full exterior detail since November. It seemed like every time we were supposed to do the job, the bad weather rolled in. We scheduled and canceled 4 times due to the weather.

Anyway, it was supposed to be a nice day today, so we set a time for me to detail this beast.

As many of you know, I have done quite a few details with a certain group of people, and they always put major time restraints on me. This time the customer told me that he needed to be out by 3:30. After I dropped my son off at school, I headed to the job. I got there around 9:45am and proceeded to start the job.

Because time was such an issue, the customer had the car washed in order to save time. The first thing that I did was to spray down the car with Opt Power Clean (3:1) and wiped it off before it could dry. I then clayed it using CM fine blue clay. For the most part the paint was in pretty good condition. Not to many contaminants for the clay to pick up.

I tested a few polish/pad combos, and then decided on Opt. Hyper Compound Spray on a 5.5" thin Cyan, followed with Opt. Hyper Polish Spray on a 5.5" thin Tang. pad. In order to save time I worked in the Hyper Compound and went over that with the Hyper Spray. Dr. G says that this is the best way to apply the 2.

Next was an IPA wipe down.

LSP was BFWD, topped with Wolfgang Spray Sealant.

The tips were polished using Opt. Metal Polish with #0000 steel wool.

Jams and wheels were sealed with Opt. Opti-Seal.

On to the Pics.

Sorry, for not taking to many 50/50 shots. As I stated earlier, I was pressed for time.

Before Polishing:

Some nasty scratches

Some more scratches

Cont.

After applying BFWD, I took the car out for some sun pics.

I hope you enjoyed this write up.

Oh, btw. Guess what happened just as I left? The sky's opened up and it poured:scared:

Detailed Elegance !

That's a beautiful job, Barry !! It sure was scratched and swirled - you did amazing work to bring that beautiful paint back to better than when it was delivered to the Client new!

I have also used the Optimum Twins and have had great results too.
So, can you say that this Buick Enclave paint was not very hard, maybe in between hard paint and soft paint ?

Great choice of pads too, I also have great success with the Cyan and Tangerine Hydro-Shreds, oops, I mean Hydro-Tech's.. :)

And you knocked this all out in what, less than 6 hours ? You sir, are the Masta' !

Thanks for sharing,
Dan F

Barry, I don't know how the heck you get such great results with the time constraints these people put on you! All the cars you've done for this group have turned out fantastic, and it's all the more amazing given the painfully tight schedules!

wow those are some deep scratches. Great job :drool5:
Thank you.
Yes, they were pretty nasty. Fortunately it all polished out, and the customer was quite happy.
Great work Barry! Especially given the time constraint! :)

How do you like the thin pads? Were you using DA or rotary?
Thanks Chad.
I like the thin pads much more then the thicker ones. They do a better job of correcting. Just wish they were more durable.

Thanks Dan.
I do like the Opt. Polishes. I just wish they had a better sprayer.
You are also right on about the pads. I usually get one or maybe two uses out of them.
Thanks again for the kind words.

Thanks Mike.
I really had to bust my hump on this one.
I appreciate the good words.

I forgot to answer your question about my polisher.
I only have my trusty GG 6" RO. One of these days I will invest in a rotary, but for now it is a DA!
