Paint-safe parking is rather difficult to find at my school. There are huge numbers of people that go in and out of the lots, and the vast majority of them don't care about cars anywhere near as much as I do.

So I have been searching for "the perfect spots" in the lot and have found a choice I have to make..Sap, Bird Poop, or Dings/scratches?

I'd probably choose sap out of these, is that safe? It is either a low people traffic spot with trees around guaranteeing sap on my car or a spot people walk by with no sap deposits on the car.

So is the sap relatively safe for the car? I haven't found any scratches or scuffs on my car yet but I know they are almost guaranteed with careless college people rushing about. As long as I take the sap off of the car that night, it won't etch or damage the paint, will it? I currently have SG * 2 on the car.

Ride a bike to school?????

Take a bus?

Hitch a ride?

If none of those work park far away and walk or get a scooter!

CAR COVER????

Hey Guess:

The problem is it's a daily driver and gets dusty. I don't even QD unless the car has just been washed that day or the day before or is incredibly clean. So I wouldn't be comfortable with a car cover, I know it would scratch my (black) car.

DK: I'd park far away but that's where the really really nasty trees are that drop nuts and stuff. I have found good spots semi-far away that would just get a little sap sometimes. I GUESS I'll go with those.

I've seen sap etch paint just like bird poop. It can also be hard to remove without a lot of rubbing. If you have good coat of wax on, you can freeze it and it will pop off. Otherwise I'd try a chemical remover and then re-wax. QD doesn't dissolve the stuff,. so wiping it usually just smears it all over the place. Don't go there.

;) That's why I said I wouldn't park far out by the trees that drop things. I always check the up in the air and on the ground of a spot before parking there..any leaves, nuts or anything of the sort on the ground and I will park elsewhere.

check it out...good post....how many hrs we talking about you being totally out of view of your car....sap..IMHO is the least of all evils....until like carguy says it gets hard...then its a mudda....but if you can at least walk by your car during the day(im sure you check on your baby)then you can get at it right away....i...fortunately work outta my car...so as soon as i see the crap...i get it off....

funny that DK and the new Marshall(Sir Guess) mention the acorns and all...yesterday i parke outside of a patients house in Leonia(lots of tall trees and woods) and the acorns were falling all around me...i got up to his door and saw his car in the driveway with dings all over his hood and all.......I ran back and moved the car....of course the guy thought i was a froot loop...but my car was safe :D ....dings/scratches are the worst killer Put...

Hey Floni!

Yeah, dings / scratches are definitely the worst! My car is parked in that dusty/polleny lot for about 4-7 hours per weekday. I often go to check on it at lunchtime but not as much as I should :(. I think I'll change that though now that you mention it.

Now I just have to find a spot where people don't walk by! The problem with parking at the extreme side of the last spot on a row is you encourage people to walk between your car and the one next to it..

puter you kill me dood....i picture you telling your guidance conselor in high school...."well...i really want a college with no students except me....i dont want them scratching my car"........LMAO!!!:p ....seriously...i know bird boop gets acidic real fast....and sap gets hard....but as long as you get to it in...the 4-7 hrs there shouldnt be horrible damage.....

i know there's been horror stories here about etching after bird poop for like 5 mins on paint and all...but if you got SGx2 on there....i think although the crap will go thru it...eventually....in 4 hrs if you get it off the way you know you should(ISA and all) then you should be ok.....thats just me dood....i honestly have never ISA'd bird crap off my car...if i did i would have to apply more Z to the area very other day.....and even a Zainohead like me thinks that's extreme....my rule is that nothing ever sits on my paint overnite....no matter what(as long as i find it

:D )BTW....check your Pm's:)

Hey FLONI,

I'm sure that if you keep a fresh coat of snow on your car the bird presents shouldn't be too much of a concern! :D

I bet those neighborhood kids would be glad to run and pound on your door when you get bird poop on your car if you pay them with ice cream or something!

Since we are on the topic (at least kind of on the topic) - I'll share a horror story with you...

It was a dark and dreary day... I didn't to go, but I HAD to...

When I was parking at my music lessons, after a big storm (big storm, I had my car covered the previous night in case the hail hit our house, which it did not, lots of wind), I noticed the trees had all lost lots of leafs and twigs. People were outside picking them up and cleaning their yards... Anyway, I pulled up to the side of the street, and

<strong class='bbc'>CRUUUUUUNNNNNCH[/b]

I stopped and sat there in horror for a few minutes. When I recovered, I found out that I had run into a rather large BRANCH, we ain't talking no twig, that was lodged between my cheapo wheel cover and the sturdy concrete. Well, believe it or not, my wheel cover took the most of the damage, with a few nice scratches on two or three of the "spokes."

I hope I can get to sleep tonight, after reliving that experience. Just glad I didn't have reall nice wheels. :p

Adios,
Josiah

You have all forgotten one very important thing. As soon as you park your car far away from everyone thinking it is safe from dings and scratches and walk away, some idiot in a big POS truck with 5 different colors of primer on it will park right next to you so close you can't even open your door. So you see your car will never be safe.

funny...the kids do rat each other out when their ball or sumthin hits the car....but no bigiie thats life....im sure you feel the same way when your surfboard falls off the top of your car right..:p ya know im gonna have to put up with you and the other sun people for the next 4 mths til spring comes.......i got you with the Cali crap...guess with the bayou humidity...and steve with that Ohio never rains..never snows and its never foggy crap....you all on the list....:D

i watched an old lady today trying to park her car next to kine...i was looking out the window of the Pizza shop and im kept saying'turn it to the left...no...back more...no go right..."...so an hr later she gets it in and i swear there was about 10 times i thiougt she would nail me...i wish i wasnt there and didnt have to get all agita in my stomach from that......:( we have an illness

First of, I would like to thank Angelo and Flash in helping me land this gig.

I received a message from a potential customer who lived locally and wanted me to give him an estimate on correcting his '05 Maxima. I met with him and saw that this car was covered in swirls, spider webs and scratches.

The client explained to me that he just bought this used, and wanted it to look like it is supposed to. He was very well aware of the all the paint defects. I explained to him that I would be able to correct about 90% of it, but there were some areas that could not be corrected due to the depth of the scrathes, and previous touch-up paint.

He dropped off the car at my place the following Monday night, and will be picking it up on Wednesday evening after work.

I started on Tuesday morning at 8:00am and off I went. It was about 90*F and very sunny. Unfortunately, I don't have a garage to work in, so I knew I was in for a long day.
