According to carstats.com the gt(14 sec) is a 1.5 seconds faster in the quarter than the 3.25i(15.5). The M3 is another story though.

Good question, I have read varying stories about guys racing them on mustang boards. From a dig, I would imagine you would have the advantage from having a lot less weight. The new GT's also don't have very good low end torque, but once she's going it's a beast. I will have to track one down and run it, don't see many M3's at the track. As for times, my stock ( no power adders ) ran a 14.2 at 99mph... not bad, I have seen them run high 13's. It's really the driver that makes the most difference.

Who would honestly compare a BMW 3 series to a Ford Mustang? I mean really. There are designed for two different functions and aren't comparable other than the fact that they are both cars. A mustang will win in a drag race, but throw some twisties at it and the 3 series will prevail. I'm not a BMW snob, I just don't really think that luxury sport sedan with an I6 can be compared to a 2 door V8 American muscle car.

Too true, although a Mustang can hang in the curves too. The real test is to have 3 passengers in each car along with enough luggage for a weekend for each person. You'd need roof rack with the Mustang!

Completely different cars with customers with completely different needs. I'd take either one though!

Besides, the ultimate car is the 469 hp, 516 lb-ft of torque Mercedes AMG E55, which in this month's Motor Trend ran a 12.39 @ 116 mph in the quarter! Yeeehaaaaw!:xyxthumbs

Looks great! How do you like the Eibachs?

I am about to install the Bullitt suspension package on my '01 GT.

You'd be suprised. I actually haul the family around in the 'Stang more often than the minivan. We have even traveled to Florida in it a couple of times. The Mustang actually has a pretty large trunk unless you have the Mach 1000 audio system as those two subs and the amps take up half the space.

It is a decent sized trunk for a pony car (a whole lot bigger than in the '74 Z/28 I used to have), but in comparison to pretty much any sedan, it is a tad small and the back seats are really for kids or in a pinch (and for a short drive) small adults. Again though, in comparison to the Z I had, the Mustang has more back seat room.

I'm not knocking the Mustang in any way, just pointing out the differences between it and a 3 series BMW. They are not really meant for the same market even though there is some overlap. Now that my kids are older, I am considering getting back into a coupe and the Mustang is high on that list. Not as powerful as a Camaro, but much nicer interior overall and easier to see out of.

For me one of the requirements of an ultimate car is that it be within my grasp :) Here is my ultimate car.

Factory Five Cobra (http://factoryfive.com)

Suspension and drivetrain from a Mustang doner. Frame and body by Factory Five. 2100lbs and an average of 300 horses produce low 12s. It does extremely well in the twisties as well and even better with the Thunderbird IRS option.

I have been saving up for the past couple of years and hope to start building next year.

I know your not nocking it :) I went from a '96 Honda Goldwing to my '98 Ford Contour when my son was born. That car was a lot of fun. It was not up to BMW standards but, I enjoyed it. The minute my kids were out of car seats though I sold it and bought the 'Stang. I have not regretted a moment of it.

If you are seriously looking for a 'Stang I would look at the Mach1. You get the added performance of the 4V motor which puts out 305 horses and the nostalga of that shaker hood all for 10 grand less than a Cobra.

didnt mean to start up anything. I just want familiar with the GT. I was at a red light the other night in a 330ci and some guy wanted to race, so i was just wondering. I dont race because its an idiotic thing to due unless your at the track.

You didn't start anything bad, no worries. Smart move in not racing. It is a stupid thing to do on the streets.
