Dealing with the Sun

Usually when I detail my vehicle I try to do it early in the morning or later in the evening, keeping my vehicle out of direct sunlight and in the shade as best as I can. I live in an area where this a good amount of shade since we live in the Redwoods but I hope to also market my business farther where I can't count on these previous factors. Besides asking a customer has the vehicle in the shade the only other option I see is purchasing a canopy which an expense and also shares its own burdens. What should I do?

I totally forgot about that, I'll make sure I pull that from the arsenal when its bright and sunny.

OUCH... I am so so sunburned from today, 5 hours direct sun the whole time!! Thanks to clearkote, and 20 min. of shade due to a cloud to throw on the wolfgang :)

Hey Scottwax, where can I get poorboys or clearkote? I have to work in the sun sometimes and it would make life much easier!!! Thanks. Jim.

Check this out....http://www.topoftheline.com/portable-canopy-tent.html

I have never used it myself but it looks like it may help out in the shade department.

Now the car in the picture is like no bigger than a tumbleweed but it looks like it is fully adjustable to swivel and turn and placed wherever you may need shade.

I have seen that umbrella thing at my local pool & patio center. I did not get to see the price on it though. They have it over hot tubs and tabels. My wife wanted one, i just kept walking :).

I bet ya in a few months Kmart will have something just like it for under $200

:D :D lol

Ahh...man that was funny

Detailing a car in the hot sun is not the way to go if you ask me. You can get a Quick Shade canopy from Wal-Mart.com for about $100.

True, detailing in the direct sun is not the best way so I try to set up my day so if I won't have shade, any polishing or waxing is done in the morning or late afternoon when the sun is not so direct. I've thought about a canopy, but it is constantly windy here. A couple of weeks ago, for about 10 days straight, we had 20-35 mph winds.

.....and just imagine the tent being moved by the wind and scratches the side of a customer's car.:scared

I have to get a tent though...even though I too am concerned about the wind. Alot of the areas I end up detailing in have 0 shade!
