2011 Nissan 370Z, leftover 2011 model the owner bought recently. He purchased the car at night, wasn't until the next day he noticed all the swirls. Dealership tells him that's normal for a new car, he replies he has purchased several new cars and they didn't have swirls already in them. He has given them several opportunities to get the car right, either they aren't doing anything at all or don't have the first clue how to fix it. They "generously" offered him $120 to cover having someone else detail it. :wall
I looked at it a few weeks ago, we set up an appointment for this weekend to take care of it. In the full on sun in the late morning, it looked a lot more swirled than it had looking at it in the early evening with the sun a lot lower in the sky. We talked about a full on correction when we talked a few weeks back but decided for now the best course of action would be to remove the buffer swirls and as much of the spider swirling as possible, then evaluate how the car looks this fall. If the owner is able to keep the paint in good shape it might then be worth going with the rotary and getting it as close to perfect as possible. But for now, given the sad shape it was in and the less than generous offer on behalf of the dealership, using a DA was the most cost effective way to bring the finish back.
After an ONR wash and Opti-Raser clay sponge:
I started compounding at around 10:30 am, by the time I finished that and both polishing steps it was after 2 pm so the shots aren't always exactly the same angle thanks to the pesky sun moving across the sky.
Compounded with Meguiars #105 using a Meguiars microfiber cutting disc and my PC 7424 XP on speed 5:
Meguiars #205 using a yellow Meguiars foam polishing pad and PC at speed 6
3M Ultrafina using a yellow Meguiars foam polishing pad and PC at speed 6
Sealed with 3D HD Poxy:
