Dawn or Meguiars Gold Class?

I see alot of posts recommending using Dawn to wash their cars.

Is this because the product is that good (i.e. safe on your paint) or because its basic in the ball park of other premium car wash products such as Meguiars Gold Class, only cheaper?

I have been using the Meguiars for a long time, with good results but since joining the board haven't been able to find an explanation (even through many a search) as to why use Dawn?

Thanks in advance.

Keep using the Meguiar's. The reason most people wash with dawn is the high alkaline content of the soap. It has a good reputation for stripping off old carnauba wax to prepare the surface for a new wax. Dawn won't touch some of the good synthetics though (Klasse, Zaino, etc.), you'd need a dedicated paint cleaner for that. So...for your normal routine, stick to the Gold Class, it's a great wash at a great price. I wouldn't recommend regular washes with Dawn, there are some that say repeated Dawn washings are not good for your paint and I would tend to agree. It's good once in a while, but stay with a dedicated car wash soap.
