Dawn on tires OK?

In the late 60's to early 70's (before tire dressing) we use dishwashing liquid to darken tires.

I used to use dawn until I read other post about how it is kind of harsh (I think I read that it contains some bleach). Since then, I have been using regular car wash soap applied to a stiff brush in full strength. It really does just as good of a job.

Sounds kinda bad for the tires. You would be basically letting the rubber suck all the detergent in without rinsing. I would just use some tire dressing to darken the tires.

All I did was clean the tires and scrubbed them with Dawn. I then rinsed it off, and applied Z16. I think it might be causing some bonding issues with the Z16, because I had to apply it twice (the first time the tire was stil wet and the dressing dried off quickly).

However, the Dawn did an excellent job of cleaning the tire (better than car wash soap alone). Made the tire darker and "newer".
