David,

Great idea. How about splitting into 2 sub forums under machine polishing.

1. Rotary

2. Dual Action/Cyclo

???

Hey Paco,

If I see that we have enough traffic on rotary I will take your suggestion. I think 90% of the discussion is on the DA machines.

Thanks!!!

I have been using a rotary power polisher for 38 years. I think a da machine is an oscillating job right? I do too much rejuvenation to get away with a DA. If thats what you need to use because of the risk then its a good idea. Speed and friction are what is creating your shine along with good products with the right application. I guess if you know when to use what and for what, you are always better off. There are so many types of automotive paints out there. Without some practical knowledge all you have is trial and error. Be well. Paintxpert

If your going to do this for a living throw the da against the wall. Go to you tube and search car polishing and watch. There are many videos explaining POWER POLISHING. You can learn how to correct paint jobs to be optically perfect in the bright sun and show the customer how to keep their car nice while your at it. Perhaps not in Winter in the Northeast where I deal with rocks and salt that they throw on the roads and highways four months per year. Paintxpert This is all my opinion of course and I dont mean to be offensive. paintxpert

There are a lot of "hackers with rotary polishers" on YouTube and "expert village".

I see hacker work whenever I see holograms on a "freshly detailed" car. As a matter of fact, I just gave an estimate on a 1 year old Durango that is so badly hacked the holograms have holograms of their own.

The Porter Cable has its place, as does the rotary polisher. I use both, depending on the condition of the paint and the amount of correction needed.

Exactly.

I'm rotary user myself and have no real need for a DA type. But it's obvious

that both have their place. It's not rotary vs. DA...

Using both is a great idea. You see if you use both you certainly see the need for a rotary. DA is like training wheels for me. I dont do training wheels ...I can quite well accomplish in short order what I need to do VIA ROTARY usually between 1000 and 1200 rpms. If you wipe it down, you will mark it up if its "BLACK". Using a foam finish pad of course. AGAIN, this is what works for me....low key of course. Not to be offensive, and not back to regression. Like I said, "you tube" can help beginners. I think it was Prentice St. Clare who said if you cant use a rotary high speed polisher your NOT a true detailer. I completely concur! No matter what category you put this comment in ITS A FACT, here in the auto paint rejuvenation process and industry. So its like riding a bike ...learn if its important to you. If NOT take up trumpet or something. BUT please dont destroy cars. Its ok if you cant learn, just dont claim to know and misrepresent yourself to clients who expect better.

HAVENT YOU HEARD OF THE KBM!?!?!?!?!

everyone has their own way of doing things and some evolve into different ways and techniques and some don't. it may not be for everyone, if they are stuck in their own way of doing things. do what works for you...

People who are tempted to post stuff about what others choose to do oughta consider what they're really trying to accomplish and how that might differ from what they actually do accomplish.

Eh, I was gonna post something a lot more to-the-point....but as the lady said when paraphrasing Nietzsche, "it's not my job to be a fly-swatter". Words to live by, IMO.
