I saw 2 polishing kits for a PC called:

- Sonus DAS polisher kit

- Sonus SFX polisher kit

What is DAS and SFX and whats the difference between these systems ? I'm new to machine polishing and what a machine.

Thanks

I read that DAS are softer (less effective at polishing?) than SFX and that SFX pads (don't last very long compared to other brand of pads like 3M). I choose the SFX pads.

I had read on another site that the SFX pads are for people that are experienced with the PC, whereas the DAS are for "newbies."

Don't know for sure, just what I've read.

I use and own both.

Both are fine for a beginner IMO, I hadnt owned a PC and used both types from the outset without problems.

For me the SFX pads are more firm and dense, and stay wetter for longer when working. I find these attributes mean they are silghtly more aggressive and I use them for paint that needs more work.

The DAS pads are softer and dont seem to have quite as much bite when you compare them to the like SFX pad. I sue these on my own car and in better shape paints.

I agree word-for-word with what Richt said.

I also use both. I would only add that the SFX are a smaller diameter and are harder to bog down compared to DAS pads. This adds to the "greater correction" attributes of the SFX.

Both are excellent pads.

Once I tried the SFX pads, I could never go back to the DAS. The SFX pads get the job done faster. One time I ran out of clean SFX pads, so I used a DAS with the 6" backing plate. This puts the outer portion of the DAS pad in contact with the backing plate; but not the central recessed part. By pushing the central part against the backing plate, I had a concave pad surface, like a variable contact pad. I liked the way it felt. It made the DAS pad not so floppy.

A few users have used the bigger backing plate with the DAS pads, It allows me to get more even pressure here when I do that.
