What did I do wrong?
Being the nice son-in-law that I am ( :lol ), I detailed my MIL's car with a first-pass polish with PB SSR1 (big improvement and reduction in micro-marring) and then topped with 476s (since I know she won't maintain it when she drives back home). Anyway, she has the "black cherry" colored 1998 Accord, and the results were lots of streaking.... not impressive. I even went over it a second time the next day with another coat of 476s, and no change.
