Damn. Missed a spot.

I've been detailing out of a shop that I'm renting for about 6 months. So far, it's been mostly a hobby. I got an account with a dealership that has me do the recovered vehicles for a credit union, as well as the dealership itself. I've done almost 10 rigs for them so far. A couple of days ago, I did a '04 Jag that was a MESS! (I wish I had pics to show.)

So, my helper said he was sick and wasn't going to be able to help me out as we had planned the night before, so I was off to do it alone. The dealer said to take my time and just get it back to him when it was done. I did it in one day, though I worked on it for 10 hours. 7 hours just for the interior. It looked like every time they opened a door, it was with their foot. Every time they got in the car, they stepped on the leather to get where they were going. It was horrid.

The point: I just called the dealer to ask him if we were still on tomorrow for the next rig, and he sounded a little hesitant, but gave a time for me to pick it up. I asked him how the Jag looked, and he said, "Good, except for the exhaust tips weren't done."

I was shocked! I was diagnosed with OCD about 5 months ago, and do obsess a little too much about the rigs that I'm working on. It can take 12 hours to do a 4 hour job because I have to keep walking around the car making sure that everything is perfect. I can't believe I missed the tips! I told him I would bring some material with me tomorrow when I pick up the next rig and polish them in the parking lot before I leave with the next car. I don't know why I felt the need to vent here. This is just going to give me something else to obsess about. I need to:chill:

Sometimes a pad and a piece of paper can be our best friend. The next time that you are doing a detail, take note of what it is you are doing and compile yourself a list. Take the list and then make it into a final inspection checklist. On you final inspection you can go over what was completed and hopefully not miss anything.

OCD is good to have, but in many cases a stronger focus is put on some things, and then other things get overlooked. It happens from time to time, don't beat yourself up to bad.
