Damn I must have some hard clearcoat

Started my big detail today...well, while the sun was out had to cut it short and cover the car because of rain. Started with SSR2 and a green pad. Not much happening there. Made a couple more passes, still not much. Decided to step up to DACP and another green pad...better but not much, couple more passes and still no big difference. Stepped up to an orange pad and now we made some progress, but it still is not "great." Multiple passes netted little difference. I guess I either need to step up to a rotary or just live with it. This paint is only a year and a half old too. Once I finish with the DACP I am following up the bad areas with SSR2/green and then everything with SSR1/blue pad topped with NXT to fill a little and then finally topped with S100.

Looks great right now after the initial DACP to most people, but I see everything wrong. Oh well, guess I just have to learn to live with it.
 
when i first started useing the pc i got very little results also

untill i started moving the pc very slowly like 1" a second with the speed set at 5

Then i started seeing results
 
I am guessing this is a Buick (1987)?



I do not recall anyone talking about this car having very hard paint so it sounds as if you maybe are going wrong with using the PC
 
If it's anything like my '89 Cadillac, then yeah, the clear can be quite hard. It still laughs at my PC and Cyclo. I recall spending a good 4 hours straight on the hood with the PC which included 1zUP with a wool pad. I just made more marring I had to polish back out.



All that said, over the years I have definitely improved the paint. I'm ranting about minutia now, all so typical of an Autopian ;)
 
It's a Grand National as in the sig and it's been repainted, hence why I said the paint was only a year and a half old. They originally came with laquer/non clear coat paint.

I do move it very slow at the speed 5 and I do multiple passes.

I guess there is really not much more I can do with it besides finish the polishing process and just be happy with what I have done. As I said, it has come out better and I'm sure it will be even better once I pass over it with SSR2/SSR1 and then some wax. Just pisses me off, lol.
 
Do it on speed 6 on occasion and don't be afraid of putting some pressure on it. Heck, I routinely use speed 6 and put some pressure into it. That's where the complaints about the PC "bogging down" apply.



You could always try other products as well. From what I'm hearing about the ones you mentioned, they don't sound like they would "make the cut" with me.
