DACP + Dremel + Door Cups

If you have struggled over the years trying to polish out the fingernail scratches in the door cups ( indentations under the door handles ) I thought I'd share a method I have used for a while.

I take my Dremel and put in the sewn multi-layerd cotton cloth polishing wheel and I tape up the collet so if I hit the handle it won't scratch.

I apply a little DACP with my finger to spread it around and using the Dremel on speed #2 and moderate pressure I polish out the nail marks. Each cup takes about 2 min to do. I use #2 and moderate as with anything else you don't want to burn the paint. The Dremel will do 30,000 rpm. You will get a little lint fallout from the wheel but I usually do this at the start of a detail so its no biggie.

I applogize for the pix but the flash kind of did the wheel in.

Wow. Nice info!

I usually hold the handle up and with some SFP, rub hard and pretty fast back and forth to remove most of them, but this seems to a more thorough way of doing the job.

Any before and afters from the door handles?

Wow, great thread, great info, and great pics. Thanks. I also have tried lifting up the door handle and trying it by hand but I couldn't accomplish much. I just may have to borrow my neighbors dremel. Something new to try. Thanks.
