DACP and #2

it was my first time...
Ok, I just recieved my PC from Coastaltools, and pad order from CMA this week. I was originally going to pick up some DACP but i'm having a harder time then expected finding it. One of the stores from the store locator isn't in business, I also went to a local NAPA and the guy never heard of it. He looked in a couple distributor books and made some calls with no luck. I'll prob try 1 more store(a little farther) from me. I was really trying to avoid online ordering. Anyway I was wondering if I can replace the DACP with #2? The NAPA had some #2. Is this a good polish to be using for a novice PC user?? Also is it to aggressive, i.e. used only on cars that REALLY need it??? Most of the cars i'll be doing are daily driver that really don't get washed, but I still don't know if #2 is to aggressive. Well im kinda confused about what to go for. I also have some 1Z PP, I guess that will do for now with the PC. I'd like to know if I can follow the 1Z PP with some VM??? Or will I have bonding issues???? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

THanks!:xyxthumbs

*I* would *not* recommend that you use #2 instead. It's really designed for use by rotary on ss paint. People use it by hand/PC on b/c, but still....I wouldn't try it if I were you.

FWIW, I just LOVE the PP by PC (or Cyclo, or rotary). It's not as aggressive as DACP (IMO) but it still works well and it's a great product for getting aquainted with your PC. I dunno if I'd bother topping it with VM. Remember that the 1z PP has wax in it; it might last as long as VM anyhow. I'd just be satisfied using PP if the cars need it (swirls, etc.) and (only) VM if *that's* all they need. But I don't *think* you'd have trouble using VM over 1z stuff. It's sorta surprising how compatible many products are with 1Z polishes.

It's kind of funny -- about a year and a half ago I went to NAPA looking for some DACP. They didn't have any, and I saw the #2 and bought a bottle. I've used it twice with a PC & white pad on my Toyota and have been pleased with the results. It goes on and comes off easy and I've never had to follow it up with a milder polish. I use a CMA white polishing pad, buff at 4 for a few passes, then crank the PC up to about 5.5 and apply moderate pressure until the #2 buffs out dry.

I've personally found DAPC to be a little hard to use. I've used it with both a white pad and an orange power pad and it seems to gum up after a short time.

Is #2 safe for clear coats? Here's a thread where Mike Phillips addressed the question of whether or not #2 is safe for CC. His response is somewhat ambiguous, so I will leave interpretation up to you...

I would agree with Accumulator that it's probably best to start with a less aggressive polish. Actually, my favorite polish right now is #80 Speed Glaze. This stuff cleans, get light swirls out, and even has some protective properties.

So one more question, how about if I go for one of the SSR polishes? I know its hard to tell and rate different polishes but would SSR2 be basically the same as 1Z PP??? If so maybe I should try SSR3. I'm thinking VM wouldnt be a problem over SSR.

im not too sure about 1z, but i use both DACP and SSR line. in my personal opinion, ssr 3 is a bit too abrasive for me. if anything, i usually go with DACP, skip the ssr2, and go to ssr1. the ssr1 pretty much takes care of any small imperfections, along with any hazing. i believe poorboys is also making a ssr 2.5, very similar to DACP

I used #2 for the first time this week and was very pleased with the results (rotary, of course). I wouldnt recommend it for typical paints in swirled condition. I was working on a 95 Mustang that had sat outside for years without washing!!! The factory green paint was highly water spotted and oxidized, but the #2 slowly but surely solved the problem. I followed up with SFP, then VM, and topped with S100. Came out pretty good I must say. The owner and his parents were extremely impressed, and could not believe the results.

Ya I think #2 is out of the picture for me. I'm thinking either SSR2 or 2.5, depending when 2.5 comes out. Thanks for the replies.
