D300 on repainted panels.

Hello, I apologize if this has been discussed before. I could not find anything.

I am preping my personal car for opti coat and may be using d300. I have some repainted panels. Ive read that d300 is for oem paints only, is it ok to use d300 on repainted panels?

Thanks.

D300 is totally fine, but I would strongly suggest using a finishing polish afterwards to make sure that the most gloss is rendered from your paint. D300 is a compound and is designed to cut surface marring, not finish 100%.

Understood - thanks.

M205 is what I have, I believe this will work but if it doesnt ill find something else. I am unsure of what it will take to remove my defects. I have 105 and uc, I figure ill just work my way up the line until I find what works

Make sure you dial in your finishing pad with M205. By this, I mean doing several tape offs/test spots to see which pad will finish the best. And as mackey mentioned. make sure to do an alcohol wipe down after.

I still won't forget the time I used M205 on a brand new blue Mercedes. Light marring, no big deal. I polished the entire car with a LC Orange pad and M205 and it looked absolutely great. Before applying Zaino Z5 I did an alcohol wipe down to remove the oils and holy cow, pad marring galore. I had to re-polish the entire car over with LC Black pad make things perfect again. The 2-step from Helll.

Hopefully my lc white and grey foam will be ok. I can get meguiars mf finishing close by but have had better luck with foam. Cutting will be a optimum mf pad. Can also get megs cutting disc if needed.

I will wash car and ipa between steps to make sure all oils are gone.

Car is white pearl and doesnt really have soft paint.

Redem- OK, see how the wash/IPA works on the oils, just be prepared to do it over and over and...

On the hardness, just FWIW the time I discovered I could get a better finish than M205 with other stuff, it was on the hardest clear I think I've ever worked (and note that I'm used to Audis, which aren't exactly soft).

if there is a better finishing polish I can get locally ill try it... always open to suggestions. I will wash with dawn if need be before opti coat to make sure - is that not enough?

I would still do an IPA wipe down after a Dawn wash. Dawn may still leave a residue behind.

I've never seen or heard of anyone having issue with Dawn preventing OC from bonding?

You can also always just douse the car with copious amounts of alcohol and then give it an ONR wash. Should be just fine for Opti-Coat bonding.

I never tried that, but nothing would surprise me where those M205 oils are concerned.

There's been talk of "stuff that makes it gentle on hands and baby ducks"....I've never noticed any such issues, but the people who mention it are folks I consider credible :nixweiss

OK, I'm nutty-fanatic/paranoid about M205 oils...but I dunno if I'd trust that to do it. I did *countless* IPA cleanups and was still getting oily artifacts, dunno if the ONR would be enough to clear it up.

Ill ipa after dawn - or is onr wash enough to clear m205 oils? What if i soak car in pure 91% ipa, any harm?

I assume a onr wash before oc will take care of any problems from dawn or ipa? Ive also heard m205 oils are gone in a few minutes in the sun?

By itself, the ONR wouldn't even come close to stripping M205 oils IME.

I'd rather defer to somebody who knows more about this than I do, but *I* wouldn't worry about doing that on any of my vehicles.

Maybe during a heatwave in AZ or TX (thinking of Scottwax, who doesn't seem to have any problems with said oils...), but when I pulled the car out into the sun (to see those oily pseudo-holograms), the heat of the sun, *for the amount of time I was leaving it outside* didn't do anything for 'em. Nor did letting the car sit (indoors) for days, which kinda surprised me since that's how I found out you should *NOT* use M205 on exterior plastics because of how it looks when the oils (begin to ) dissipate.

Eh, I'd really buy some PrepWash or a similar product, or wash the car with "A" or something like that. My only concern with the "A" wash/etc. approach is that it might uncover some hidden, residual, marring and then you're back to doing the M205 again and right back with the same issue.

Car is finished. M105 was used and m205 followed on a black lc foam pad. Wish I had megs mf pads to get a little more cut rather than optimum mf pads.

Car is about 95% corrected, with thin paint I dont want to push too far. How much oc does a small car usually take? How long do I need to wait before washimg?

Car is a mazda speed3 and I used 8 1/2 cc
