Cyclo tips?

I picked up a Cyclo (first buffer ever) - are there any good newbie Cyclo user tips to keep in mind when working with it? (I've read all the machine-type stuff, but curious about cyclo specific)

Two Heads are Better Than One! You can apply polish with one head while removing it and buffing it out with the other. Apply your favorite polish or swirl remover to a green pad on one Cyclo head, and leave the white pad on the other head completely dry. Angle the machine so that the white pad follows the green pad as you work across the surface. This remarkable technique will produce a perfect polishing pattern without a "missed spot" and cut clean-up time in half.

Two Heads are Better Than One! Apply your favorite liquid wax or sealant with one head and remove it with the other. Place the wax on a white pad on one Cyclo head, and cover the other pad with a terry or MicroSuede bonnet. Angle the polisher so the bonnet follows the white pad across the surface. How about that!

Heh heh, I've never tried the different stuff on each pad approach, but IIRC Anthony O. likes doing it.

I always found the Cyclos *so* user-friendly and so intuitively obvious that I'm sorta at a loss when it comes to offering advice! Uhm...have plenty of pads; most people will probably load 'em up with product sorta fast. IF you're not using the Edge system, try to center the pads as best you can so they don't rub too much.

Don't use KAIO with it, IME the Cyclo flashes this product too fast and buffing it off can be a real PIA.

I don't see two different products, just different pads. or product on one and the other to buff. You may have mis-read that...I got it off the TOTL website. I don't even have a cyclo, just trying to help.

integritydetail- Sorry, when I said "different stuff" I meant different pads, or a loaded/bare pad, or a pad and a bonnet, etc.

I dunno...I guess I might be stuck in my ways, but after more than 20 years of using Cyclos I have a pretty good feel for 'em and I just can't get into the idea. I end up going over areas numerous times, and that technique just wouldn't work for me :nixweiss

I bet Irene at TOL got the idea from Anthony :D

You should have yours tomorrow...;)

You're prolly right, like I said, I don't even have one, hehe. :nixweiss Thanks for clarifying, though. I'm sure you are totally qualified based on the good info I read in your posts.:bigups I bought Scottwax's and will have it this week, so I'll be proficient b4 long and then I can give my own opinion and not a regurgitation.:buffing:

integritydetail- Congrats on the Cyclo purchase! Hope you like yours as much as I do mine. I'm sorta surprised that Scott didn't keep it if only for use with the carpet brushes, I could almost justify having a *third* one just for that!

Shhhh!! He may not have shipped it yet, LOL!

I've seen many, many people use these machines for their carpet brushes ^^. But let me know how it works out, cuz I have a customer (i sell detail chemicals for my main gig) that is trying to sell his.

You received it at 1 PM today. I checked. ;)

Yes sir, I'm gonna sell Scottwax's famous Cyclo on Ebay and get rich!!!!!:LOLOL

Naw, I really wanted one and thanks for the fast shipping and all the pads. I'm gonna have to wait till Friday to try it out, but I'm looking really forward to trying it. I love the progress I can make with a 7424, and I'm still learning on my rotary (not using it on customer's cars yet) so I hope the Cyclo will be a great asset.

Thanks again for the good deal and extras, Scott!

Chris

Thanks Accumulator, sounds like you "Accumulate" Cyclos...

I had cyclo brushes I've been using on my PC already, yippie!:woohoo:

I hardly ever use it now that I have a rotary and 3M's Ultrafina to finish out. ;)

[Bob Dylan voice] The times they are a-changin' [/Bob] ;) Seems like just the other day you tried out the Cyclo for the first time!

Like others here I found it almost intuitive to use but I'll offer this:

When on horizontal surfaces keep it level. You can tell by looking obviously but also by feel. It acts like a mini floor buffer and will move if the handle if lifted or dipped. Try it you'll see what I mean immediately. If it's not trying to go left or right then it's pretty level.

I found the pads get very very soft from the heat if used for a long period of time and don't clean/polish as well. If they feel quite squishy change them.

Anyone else want to offer anything to the thread starter?

Only used the new DoublePrecisionâ„¢ pads and adapter on mine, so can't offer a great insight into pad choices, but the ones supplied are excellent, especially the Orange and Yellow.

Work well with a wide range of polishes: Menz, 3M, Einzett, Mark V, and System One X.

In fact, with Yellow and soft Jap paint (Honda Accord/Acura TSX), one hit often times with S1X/Mystique will give 100% correction.

Also highly recommend a final buff with the microsuede bonnets on Green (White is too soft) to really bring out the shine.

Due to get some new pads, and a little something special which may replace the bonnets for the final buff.

More info once I have them and tested their effectiveness.

Probably said more than I should've. Ssshh! ;)
