Cyclo polishing question.

Hello all I was wondering if someone could give me some direction in terms of how much of a car I should mask off with tape, when performing minor correction with a cyclo.

Main concerns are:

Is it necessary with a cylco to mask?

Can I damage non-painted surfaces?

When I remove the tape how should I polish the small area of paint that was covered by the tape?

Thanks

Maybe..better make that "probably".

Do it IF

-the product you're using stains trim

-you tend to get product everywhere (panel gaps, nooks and crannies, adjacent panels...anywhere you might not want it)

-you have areas/materials like trim that you need to keep product off of

Don't bother IF

-the product doesn't stain

-you're good at keeping off of no-no areas and you don't tend to get product everywhere

-you don't mind getting product all over the place if it does happen

Can I damage non-painted surfaces?

Some surfaces, yeah. E.g., the felt around Audi sunroof seals will suffer if you run the pads over it too much, never mind what the product can do. And some trim can be damaged by pads/products. If it doubt, keep stuff off.

By hand. Yeah, I know...but that's one more reason to be careful about your taping so you miminize the amount of by-hand work you need to do. Sometimes you can retape in a different way and use the polisher after all.

Oh, and watch out for residual tape adhesive, it can mess things up.

The more familiar you get with the Cyclo the easier it'll be to keep it off areas you want to avoid. It's a pretty easy polisher to do that with IMO.
