Current Gen WRX

Looking into possibly getting a current gen WRX hatchback. The SRT 8 Cherokee has fallen through and I need something that's going to be lighter on my pocket yet still need awd and some fun factor as well. Just curious if anyone here owns one and their thoughts on it. Is the paint still crap like the first couple of gens?

The new WRX is an incredible car. I'm a die hard VW fan boy, and if I ever leave VW, it would be for a Subie WRX or STI. Us South Florida boys have no use for all wheel drive and the extra weight they carry, but them Subies are killer up in the north and wherever there's terrain and snow. Keep us posted, man.

the car is incredible. I detailed a new gen sti that was modded slightly. Owner took me for a ride and i was simply amazed. To bad he decided to sell it after i baught my new accord coupe otherwise i would have made him a offer to buy that car.

get a STi though not a wrx.

Why STI? Taken from C&D article on and '09 WRX:

Combine that with a clutch-abusing redline launch and the WRX will get to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds, 1.1 seconds quicker than previously and three-tenths swifter than the quickest STI we tested. What’s more, the WRX puts down its power more smoothly than the peaky STI, with ample grunt from 3000 rpm. The engine’s flexibility allowed us to leave the five-speed gearbox in third through most of the handling portion of this test.

I'd save the $, and buy the WRX. Spend the difference in mods, and make it even quicker.

As has already been posted, a current gen WRX is actually quicker than the STi in Car and Driver tests so for the extra 8k I'm just getting some styling points. Now I just need to find a dealership that has one because as of right now the two local dealerships don't and they want me to sign papers if I want to order one at which point I left.

Wait till the 2011 WRX comes out. It comes with the same fender flares that the STI has. Looks sick. Unless you're going to be tracking the car or beating the hell out of it, just get the WRX.

Well if you don't plan to mod it i would get the STi. In my opinion the regular WRX's just look like crap. The styling of the STi's is just so much better not to mention having the nice differential control and what not.

Everyone is different though. I think the testing also boils down to the driver. I don't see how the WRX could possibly be quicker then a STi . . . . . line them up on the street or at the track and check it out.

couple of things to consider regarding the STi over the WRX would be

6 speed gear box. Much easier to cruise around as in some situations having a 5 speed is just kind of crappy. I've been in situations locally in other vehicles where one gear is a little to boggy and another gear is a little to high in the rpm band . . . . . smoother shifting with that 6 speed.

the differential adjustment and the differential lock are some very nice features to have any where . . . . . . but has some nice benefits in certain situations such as snow or heavy rains or just to adjust things for some nice hole shots.

has better suspension then the WRX

better brakes

can't beat the looks of the sti over the wrx. Add the correct set of rims and the STi will have the most aggressive stance ever.

Here is a photo of my friend Robert's well old STi now. I wish i would have picked it up as it was so sick but he put it up for sale after i purchased my brand new accord coupe. I had the pleasure of detailing it before the new folks came to pick it up and we went for a ride in it and dide a nice photo shoot.

I bought an 08' STi back in Dec. 08' and test drove the 09' hatch at the time. It is a great car and very fun to drive. It lacks much of the expensive technology found in the STi, but honestly, that didn't make it any less fun to drive for me. They both offer a very nice balance of ride and handling. The only reason I bought the STi is because they made me a screaming deal and it ended up costing me less per month than the WRX would have (STi had $7500 off and 0% for 63 months). If you like the 2010, Subaru is currently offering 2.9% for 63 months on all remaining 10's. We just bought my wife a new Outback on the same deal.

I have a 2008 WRX Sedan 5-Speed, base model and it ****in rocks. I bought it new about 2.5 years ago, got a little over 30K miles on it, and I'm still not bored of it yet.

Well that says a lot:xyxthumbs I believe the 09+ WRX are up to 265hp from 225hp which is awesome:drool: My brother has one that he bought after his Scion was hit:down The WRX are amazing cars...I drove it without traction control and it is a fun car. I would go for the WRX STI Wagon- awesome power, suspension, and ample cargo space for detailing supplies. Keep it clean, polished, maybe some new wheels, & tint- but stock. The suspension is from the JDM Sti. Those cars are really balanced from the factory and don't need much.
