Odds are that they are base/clear paint.

I don't understand. Why do you sand to the immediate area around the damage and not sand the damage itself? I am also confused as to when do you actually sand the curbed damage itself?
smartxtai said:quick question: is there a reason why the article doesn't suggest taking the tire off and fixing the damage? Unless I'm missing something, it seems easier to take off the wheel and fix the damage rather than wrap the whole car with masking paper.
