So here's the scene.....One of my favorite courses, (where I learned to golf) is closing, making way for a new Cubs spring training facility. I am speaking of course, of the Riverview Golf Course in Mesa, AZ. I have probably golfed at this course more than all the others I have played at combined. Well today I went for one more round, the last round.
So here I am at the 9th tee (it's a 9 hole muni). The green is protected by water and sand. So I lay up in front of the lake to recreate the best scene in Tin Cup. Well by shot goes left and lands right in front of a tree. So I chip to the right and am faced with this shot. 100 yrd over water.
I caught the shot fat, and you guessed it, SPLASH. On that ball I had written, CUBS SUCK. I must add that I am in favor of the ball park. I believe it is good for Mesa. I just don't want to lose the best Muni course in the valley. BUMMER
It was almost fitting that my shot went in the drink. The course won our last battle. The last time I played there I drove from the white and carried the water onto the green. So my memory of Riverview will alway be the splash. Those were good times.
