Stanley Black & Decker buys Craftsman Tools | WTOP

Interested to see what/if Stanley does with the Craftsman name. A guy on another forum posted:

I work for Stanley and there is a plan to bring production to the states. Unfortunately or fortunately our facilities in the states that produce Proto or MAC are at capacity with a little capacity at stanley facilities. So a new plant will be built. I am excited to see what we can do with the craftsmen namesake.

Safe to say Sears can go ahead and close up shop? That`s crazy.....they mention in that article Sears bought the Craftsman brand for $500 lol

hah wow... not surprising, I recently saw a chart showing certain retailers value throughout the past 10yrs or so and Sears was hurting bad with a constant drop . Amazon was the total opposite with being the strongest of all the ones listed, with Wal-Mart maintaining their share throughout the years and staying steady.

If you have been in a Sears store in our area, you can see why they are not doing well. The stores are old looking and not inviting. In the tools area, the stocking is poor. K-mart is the same story.

The tool aisle was the only reason I visited sears. Most of my hand tools are Craftsman. Hopefully Stanley`s takeover is for the better.

Sears did it to themselves a long time ago with their snobbish pain in the a** attitude when a broken tool was brought in. They would try anything to not warranty those tools. The last time I was in a Sears was probably 15-20 years ago, I had taken my Torque wrench in for a skipping tooth, they hassled me enough and I just had enough over the years. I will not miss them.

I`ve gotta say that I`ve had perfectly great customer-service when I took them back for replacement(s), but the overall (recent- last 25 yrs) quality of Craftsman tools has turned me off to where I doubt I`ll ever buy any more...downright dangerous in some cases (that breaker bar I`ve posted about). Sigh..I have a *MOUNTAIN* of Craftsman stuff (the tools from years ago are generally pretty good).

If I`m not springing for top-shelf I just buy something I consider disposable from Harbor Freight.

Nothing like bringing in an old USA made Craftsman tool for warranty and having it replaced by some import low quality POS.

Sears has a wonky vibe in there. A step up from Walmart but sharing the same customers. Crazy checkout times and a hassle to even find a register sometimes. The place needs a gameplan.

Sears is going the way of Radio Shack. We have a small one in my town and it is about useless. No service after the sale. I drive about 30 miles to the closest Lowes for appliances, tools, lawn equipment, etc, where 10 years ago I was going to Sears.

Matter of time before Sears shut its doors, I use to shop there all the time now it`s Amazon. If I need tools I go to Home Depot or lowes craftsman tools quality sucks. Maybe another too big to fail on the thresh hold of history.

Eventually Amazon wifi swallow them all. It`s just a matter of time.

That`s why I stick to companies that are a bit more niche, I swear by Wera, Gedore, knipex and Wiha. Good luck matching OEM quality, I do hope stanley/craftsman pick up there game. I buy a tool ONCE not 3 times.

I don`t get how anybody could expect anyone working for you to put in quality work behaving that way

I suspect there`s a certain...blindness...that defaults to "it`s [somebody else`s] fault and their flaw is not being me".

Lots of, uhm...children who look like adults..around these days.

Sears has been circling the drain for years now, and IMHO Craftsman tools where never really that great anyway.

They were accessible and available - but that`s about it.

Quite frankly, I think it`s silly to try and make them in them in the USA at this point.
