98 F-150

This truck was a revisit. I polished it out last fall. It looked like i didnt even do anything lol But hey its a farm truck. He wanted a full out paint correction, interior and engine bay becuase he is going to give this truck to his wife. The only problem was he didnt have all the time required for such a job so i could only do a paint correction on the front to the extended cab. Next weekend im finishing the wheels, tires and wheel wells, the bed and doing the interior, what till you see this interior, its BAD news.

Wash- 2 bucket, foam gun, megs gold class

Clay- Clay Magic blue

Paint- Makitta rotary, edge2K blue pads

Optimum Compound- 600rpm-2000rpm-600

Optimum Polish- 600rpm-1000rpm-600

wax/sealant-Megs #26

This was a joy right here. The owner was concerned becuase everytime he waxed his truck the paint felt realy gritty and there was *rust specks* (rail dust). I explained to him i could fix that and remove all the swirl marks and imperfections from his paint. Since this was his DD he didnt wanna go all out on a paint correction and said he would be happy with just a light polishing and smooth paint, no problem. The rail dust and contaminants on this paint was the worste i EVER seen. It took almost 2 hours to clay it. I used a brand new mothers claybar and when i was done i had to toss it. I wish i would have gotten pics of it. The owner washed it before i had gotten there so that saved me a step so it evened out. He only wanted me to do the paint so i didnt do the wheels, tires or wheel wells or interior.

Clay- Mothers

Makitta rotary

Edge2K Blue pads

Optimum polish- 600rpm-1000rpm-600rpm

Wax/sealant- Poorboys World EXP

Paint came out 60%-70% imperfection free.

This was one of the better areas that didnt have alot of rail dust.

I love 97-2002 F-150's, the paint is so workable, from my experience. You can do correction quick and easily.

How do you like the 6 inch edge pad's with the rotary?

Thats so true. Normaly i wouldnt need to use a heavy compound but this one was THAT bad that i needed to.

i LOVE it! But i only use the blue becuase i cannot for the life of me control any of the cutting pads. Im lookin into buying some of their wool pads, i guess wool is easier to control. I wish i woulda had a wool pad with the F-150 i would have been able to finish all the paint in that small time frame.

Does this guy work at or near a foundry? I believe there are still a few left in the GR area. If a foundry doesn't take good care of their dust control equipment it can emit "rail dust" into the neighborhood. I had to remove "rail dust" twice in one month when my car got dumped on at a previous employer. Fortunately where I work now they take good care of the baghouses.

Of course if you park near an active railroad all the time you'll get this too.

The truck was shipped in from texas via train back in 98.

I actually have a problem with rail dust on my personal vehicles becuase i work close to an active railroad track. I have to clay every 3 months at least.

Nice work!

Looks like that Harley came from Biker Bob's Harley over on my side of the glove?

It possibly could have. When he comes back for maintanence i will ask.

You're very talented with the rotary. Great work.

Greg

Nice of you to say that but i only have ~20 hours experiance with it. I can definately see why people preffer the rotary over the PC. Its much much much faster! Its definately not a monster that alot of people make it out to be. As long as your not using a cutting pad/heavy cut compound/polish and keep your RPM's under 1500 its a pretty safe machine.

~4 hours. The guy lives on a dirt road so it was in pretty bad shape. Took an hour just to wash it and scrub the white walls.
