"Could you be...the most beautiful wax in the world..."

My #16 is finally here! 8 Blessed tins of crayola blue goodness. I couldn't resist. I squared off a section of my hood, QD'd it and applied a thin coat. It's humid today so I am letting it dry.

My initial impressions...I LOVE the royal blue tin. The metal can reminds me of waxing my car with an old Turtle Wax tin back in the mid 80's. I don't see why people need to mist their vehicle or their applicator pad. The wax looks very hard but as soon as I slid in my foam pad and did 3 counter-clockwise turns, it melted onto the pad. This stuff applied so buttery smooth. Reminded me of my #26.

We'll see how the results look. I'll follow up with pics...

Thanks eSHine!

I just picked up my 4th tin the other day. I really like it. So do my clients. I charge $25 just to put one coat of it on thier car and they eat it up.

I just joined this site today and am still getting used to navigating trhrough the many threads, etc. I recently bought the Jaguar XK (indigo blue) and am looking for some help in finding the best products to use and any other recommendations you all can suggest. Admittedly, I am overly cautious with the Jag as it is now stored in my garage under a breathable car cover. Any help and/or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

just read and learn bro.... every question in this forum has been asked....have fun sleuthing and welcome to the madness.

Well the results are in....I'm not impressed :sadwavey:

I applied what I thought was a thin coat but when it dried, it looked white and the small 2 x 2 section I taped off almost made my arm come off! I can see why you all want it applied thin and to not let it sit more than a few minutes.

However, after I got done wiping it off and spraying a light mist of QD to buff it, the newly waxed section looked a tad bit glossier than the rest of the hood. The rest of the hood was done in #26 over a month ago and it was dirty because it's rained since then. So I am sure that the gloss I saw was just because I wiped the dirt off the section I applied the wax to.

My paint is a light pewter metallic in excellent condition, btw. There was no sunlight in my garage just a dull 75watt bulb. Maybe the section will look better in the sunlight?

Anyway, I will give her a good washing this weekend and see if I can do a more thorough test...More to come....

hmm...I think once you see the area in the sun you will be more impressed. I applied #16 both thin and heavy and let it sit for 15 minutes before buffing off and it still came off like butter. Please keep us updated, I'm very interested in hearing your thoughts when you see it outside tomorrow. Thanks

Yea I let the #16 sit for about 45 minutes !!! But I did this to see how hard it would be to take off and it was pretty hard! I'll never do that again. I also didn't think I would see that big of a difference between the #26 and #16 but I guess as the weeks passed on, I got more and more anxious!

Now that I've had time to sleep on this, I feel alot better. First off, the wax in the tin will last me forever! I have 3 vehicles I wax on a regular basis and I go thru the #26 liquid quick. Also, I have noticed that the #26's beads go away after 5 to 6 weeks. I waxed my vehicles in the beginning of November and now when it rains, the water seems to not bead so tightly and looks kinda sloppy.

This morning I walked into the garage and felt the section that i applied the #16 to. It felt so smooth and slick. Just for grins, I splashed a little water on there and I have never seen such tight beading! Even with #26 freshly applied, the beads never looked that way. The #26 beads appear to be larger and kinda "chubby" whereas the #16 beads are tight. It almost had an industrial look to it. I can see why some people like to see this wax on their cars. I know beading isn't exaclty the main purpose of wax but it sure feels good to know that something is on the paint that is making the water just curl up and run away!

So if #16 looks just as good as #26 but it lasts longer and keeps giving me tight beading like this, then I am sold. I cannot believe Meguiar's made a wax liek this for 50 years and is now being forced to remove it from store shelves in the U.S.

This weekend I am gonna wash, clay, polish with #7 and then wax with #16 and we'll see where I am after that. I feel better about dropping $$$$ for 8 tins of wax!

By the way, I only meant to keep 4 tins and sell the other 4 on eBay next spring. Do ya'll think Meguiar's will eventually stop making #16 altogether? If so, I will hold off on selling.

I'm not sure if "forced" is the right word. They elected not to reformulate it to meet VOC restrictions, presumably because the US market was too small to support the cost of doing so. I suppose it could be argued that it would not be possible to reformulate it into a VOC-compliant version, but the continued presence of other durable paste waxes on the market (such as Collinite) would seem to refute that argument, at least in theory.

Yea I see what you are saying. Maybe Meguiar's feels their NXT waxes are lightyears ahead of the #16 and other carnauba's???? WHo knows.

All I humbly know is, the beads the #16 is making are incredible. I've also never tried COllinite. I wonder how #16 and Collinite compare...Hmmmmmm.

Am i the only one who thinks #16 is over glorified?

Before it was banned not many people talked about it.

Now that it is banned everyone and their brother wants it and swears its the best thing since sliced bread.

Yes, #16 gives great beading. Yes, before it was discontinued, it was passe...now it's a "collector's item" or contraband. You know, if you want to make sure your kids do something, tell them not to...so if you tell detailers they can't have #16...then they have to have it. And I do believe, in the larger scheme of things, #16 sales were small enough that it wasn't worth it to Meguiar's to go through the reformulation. There have been a number of other products that they simply dropped because the sales weren't large enough (#38 & 42 come to mind).

I can understand people buying it as a collectors item but it seem people arent buying it for that purpose. It seem people are buying it becuase they think its *the best nuaba* out there and cant be beat.

#16 was used by a lot of members here well before the ban, but since it has been around since the fifties it never received the amount of hype that some newer products get.

It isn’t the best looking carnauba wax that I have, but *I* think it might be the best looking wax with the kind of durability it offers. It isn’t quite as durable as Collinite 476, but it comes pretty close and I think it looks better.

Part of the appeal right now might be the “forbidden fruit aspect that Mike (Setec) mentioned. I like it because I find the combination of looks, durability, and ease of use (when applied thin with my cordless 4 orbital or a PC) to be hard to beat on my daily driver in the winter. I’m not going to break out something like my Souveran for one of the kids cars, but #16 offers some pretty decent looks along with good durability.

#16 is what it is, and anyone who rushes out to buy several tins of this, or any product they haven’t tried, might be disappointed. But on a well prepped finish #16 can look very good while offering outstanding durability.
