Costco steamer alternative?

GOT PREP?
I let a friend borrow mine and he *loved* it, but doesn't want to spend big bucks on a professional unit. Has anyone been able to find a similar unit for <$100? 50-60 PSI, hand held trigger on end of hose, etc? I tried several different google searches to no avail. :(

As a side note, I love the unit as well--it serves me well. When it does die, I will buy a "real" steamer--they have sooo many uses.

I bought this hand held unit from walmart (cant remember the name of it) it was actually in the auto section. It costs 50 bucks...It does the job somewhat but not very good. It leaks water quite a bit, doesnt hold much water in the tank since its hand held. You get what you pay for though. But its better than no steamer at all since this one does the job, but I bet for money there are better units obviously!

i have a piccolo steamer sitting in my garage...it leaks water while steaming too, which has detered me from using it....am I just not waiting long enough for it to heat up before use or what? but I will sell it if your friend wants to buy it

That's what I use. This thing is like a little rolling tank. My dad bought it originally in hopes of it being a miracle cleaner (ie: cleaning etched brake dust without agitation), but gave up quickly and donated it to me :D.

It is of very high quality and all of it's fitments are the real deal. Highly recommended once yours takes a dump.

So you fill it up with water, turn it on, the light goes out, and there is water leaking? Wear does it leak from? Does it stop once you begin to steam?

Thanks for the help guys, I wil pass the links along.

Sean, thanks man-- I *know* that I will have to buy a real one soon. :D

I bought the Saeco Piccolo and I had issues with water coming out, but only what was in the hose that had condensed when I sat it down for awhile. If you don't let the light go out initially, it will also spit water.

Best part of buying from Costco, if you don't like it, send it back for full refund, plus shipping, as long as you kept the receipt.

there are no leaks from the unit itsself....its as you trigger the steam...it seems that i get about 1/2 steam and 1/2 water coming out on water I am trying to steam clean....maybe good on carpets that I would get wet anyway, but not on the dash, leather seats, etc....it comes from the tip of the nozzle only when triggered in use - think of it like when you turn off the water in your house, then go to use the faucet after you turned the water back on....its sputters while the air escapes.....well this is just the reverse....water sputters out

That's exactly what my cheapo $50 steamer is doing when I say it leaks. Like I said my steamer can get the job done, but I wish I could afford a better one with more heat/pressure and less leaking of water!

Anyone have any experience with this Bissell?

The Little Green Machine is more of an consumer "extractor" not a steam cleaner. If you're looking for a nice carpet extractor I would just invest in a nice Ridgid Wet/Dry Vac. Much better suction/performance than the LGCM. Just my .02

I'd personally shy away from the Europro's.. I picked one up at costco and it barely had any pressure whatsoever. It's one of those things where it's just worth it to save up and get a good one.

I dunno - never used it in detailing vehicles, but my shark pro seems to work really well - maybe I'll get it out for detailing...

what exactly are you steaming in the car?

Anyone know of a good place to get different attachments (IE, an extractor head) for a Ridgid Vac? I use a LGCM, and it works well, but definitly doesn't suck as hard as my Ridgid...
