Corvette Indy Pace Car

A few days ago my old boss contacted me and said that he would like his 1998 Corvette detailed. The car has a heavy coat of overspray on it. The car has been sitting in a garage with a very thin cover. The painter that paints the bumpers always does his work right in front of the garage and always has the door open. I can't even imagine how many layers odf overspray are on there. Now if you are familiar with the purple Pace Car you remember it has decals all over the car. My idea is to clay the entire car to remove the overspray. The only problem is I don't want to destroy the decals. I don't think the clay will hurt them but I know the polishing will. I plan on using my new Hitachi rotary and PB SSR's to do the polishing. I'm thinking of masking the decals but that would be extremely labor intensive. plus cutting the masking tape might be a problem. Suggestions welcome. Thank you. Kurt

Actually Pro Polish would be my choice. We sell a lot of it to race cars with decals of their sponsors and it never disturbs them... I would work by hand around the decals if you feel worried or at least use a finishing pad instead of a polishing pad :)

I would think clay would be fine, although if it has as much overspray as you say, it might take alot of work and alot of clay...

I would be careful on the decals especially with a rotary...do you have a PC? I agree with Steve Pro Polish would do good on this...

I have Pro Polish and every kind of LC pad for the Hitachi and the PC. I'll try all of the suggestions to see what works best. :thanks Be looking for some pics of this car in the near future...:D
