Corvette and Camaro show prep with 3D and HD products

Awhile back, Ben @ 3D offered some of the new 3D Carnauba Paste Wax for a review. Link -> http://www.autopia.org/forums/3d-high-definition-car-care/179701-3d-carnuba-paste-free-giveaway.html

I was chosen as a winner and finally had the opportunity to use it. These two cars are in decent shape, but needed some final polishing for a local car show. Sorry for the low quality pictures. I was working in the shop with the owners who were tackling things like wheels, engines, interiors, etc. while I was polishing. Most of the pictures were taken after a long day when we were all ready to head home.

1962 Corvette
This was in tough shape and I didn't have time to do the proper defect removal so it got just a once over with HD Polish (to keep with the 3D/ HD theme). Some of the nastier spots were hit with some M105 first, too. I didn't do the wheels or tires on this one, as the owner was going to take care of that.

Some pictures of the car in the shop.

1967 Camaro
This was in a bit better shape than the Vette, but they had just installed a custom electric tilt hood so there were a lot of hand prints, smudges and light scratches from putting the hood on and off dozens of times.

The 3D Carnauba paste was very easy to apply and goes on nice and thin. I used a blue LC pad and my PC (4") and GG (5-1/2") to apply a thin even coat. The tin looks hardly used after two cars, so I would think this tin is about a lifetime supply! I wasn't a big fan of the smell as it seemed sort of strong like a solvent or chemical type versus the fruity scents that a lot of products have. The 3D paste was very easy to remove with no dusting or streaking. I'm kind of an old school Zaino and Collinite guy, so using a carnauba was a refreshing change of pace for me and the car owners were very happy.

I worked on these cars last Wednesday and the show was this past weekend. This morning I got an email from the Corvette owner.....

Both my 62 and XXXX's Camaro won outstanding in class trophies as well as the club for best display. This was in no small part due to your excellent detailing to make the cars look their best. Thank you again for your help. We will have to get together to get me some supplies to keep the car up.
Thanks again,

Woohoo! :yay

Talk about super glossy!! Nice work. HD Polish + 3D Paste wax = award winning!

Love that old iron. Cars look great and it's gotta make ya feel awesome to get kind words back like that from the owner. Nice work

You can't buy advertising like that, congratulations.

Thanks everyone.

Huge thanks to Ben @ 3D for the contests and the sample. :bow I love playing with new products.

Same here. It was similar to Megs #26, but I prefer (barely) the scent of the 26. Unfortunately, I didn't get my tin in time to use it on the last job I did.

Wow, great results!

I just got me a tin of this wax, plus a 32oz bottle of Poxy :) We also just changed our old car and got two new cars, one in metallic silver and other in opaque red. I were thinking of applying Poxy on the metallic silver car and wax on the red one. But thinking how wet looking this Paste Wax could be, would you recommend using it on Poxy, or is Poxy already unique by itself?

Just for brainstorming :)

Thank you.

I've used Poxy a little in the past and it is a pretty good product that also has a wet look. It lasts awhile and goes on/off really easy. (As for a comparison of the Poxy to the 3D Paste, I prefer liquids to paste products purely from an application standpoint) Without knowing the durability of the 3D paste however, I'd give the nod to the Poxy for daily driver protection and the 3D paste for a topper or last step.

Someone at 3D/HD might have a better answer, though.
