Corvette after 1 year in shop. (graphic)

Well I finally graduated from the hood to the car itself. My car has been in and out of the shop spending at least 10 months out of the last year sitting uncovered in tuner shops. That is a story in itself, but on to the before pics. I didnt get pics of the worst panel on the car that had up and down marks from the technician leaning over, it had similar marks to that on the rear quarter panel from the tint guy doing the same. :angry Heavy oxidation had appeared all over the car I guess from the fumes and and sitting outside during the day but the amazing thing about that is that the car was still beading like crazy.

So now on to some good pics. My process is as follows.





Process:



Wash (Megs)

Clay (Zaino)

Wash

Optimum Compound / White Pad / Rotary 1800 rpm

Optimum Hyper Compound / Yellow, Orange, Wool - where needed.

Zaino ZPC fusion / White Pad / Rotary 1200-1500 Rpm

Optimum Polish / Blue Pad / Rotary 1200 rpm

EX-P / Hand

Souveran / Hand





Overview:



The optimum compounds effectiveness really suprised me as there were very few marks that couldnt be taken care of with one pass and only enough that could be counted on two hands with two passes



Ziano ZPC suprised me the most as it really finished down to a bright shine with very litle effort, love this porducts work time and easy of use as I have done some great work with it by hand as well. It does cake and dust very bad so frequent pad changes or cleaning are neccessary.



Optimum polish really dissapointed me as I would apply it and even at higher rpms (2000- 2300) it wouldnt finish down completely to a shine and often seemed like it was a step backwards after the ZPC, that is until I went to much lower RPM's and added some pressure (10lbs or so) it really came to life and I love it now.



EX-P Speaks for itself



Souveran + EX-p = Awesome.

Here are some in the sun after some OP,EX-P, and Souveran. I did not even attempt to acheive perfect as I now will have my car for a extended period of time so I can make progress on each detail, maybe in the spring or summer I can really go for broke. All in all I spent about 13 hrs just to get to this point, and I still have to do the interior and engine and de-wax the crevaces



The back hatch nearly killed me, I wish I had some before pics of that thing!!!!!!

Optimum products are tuned for rather low RPMs, like 1400-1500. Going higher is not always recommended as it may be contraproductive.



Car looks good though.

I started to realize that after some time that lower rpm's and some light pressure made for better results. Softer pads are good too. There were just some areas that needed more work than I could get with 1500 rpms so I went higher.

That is a great looking Vette. Hopefully, I'll catch up to you at a Year One event or something and see it in person. What a recovery job you did there.
 
Great job on the Vette, the car looks very wet and shiny in the after photos :xyxthumbs .



Btw if you are looking for a polish that finish down to a bright shine, you can consider trying out the PO106FF from Menzerna.

Thanks!!!! yeah it was the shop guys leaning over the quarter panels doing work, gas filled fumes and dust and greasy hands all over it all the time and then sitting out in the sun during the day baking all that gunk in the paint.

It's a 427 C5R block with low compression and rear mounted Twin Turbos (yeah...fast...) the badge says 427 CI though. I need to take that badge off because I'm suing the company that put it on for their crappy work and hence had to spend the other 6 months fixing all that @#%^

Thanks, I hosted one of the Braselton Nashes last year, but dont know if that will happen this year. I live literally 5 minutes from Year One and Kevin King (owner) is a good personal friend so I get to hang out with Foose and all those guys when they come in town.

Thanks Deon. too bad they dont have your spank smiley over here. Your car is a blast to drive around in, I want a re-test when I can actually punch the throttle.



You gotta come out here so we can detail that thing.
 
Nice recovery!! That thing was bad, and I know what PITA it is to correct vettes.

The before pictures, that look oxidized, to me look like it is paint over spray.

Nah it wasnt overspray unless they had painting going on at the shop (not a body or paint shop) so I assumed it was oxidation although I'm not really familiar with it unless its on an old extremely abused paint job. Seemed like mild oxidation to me because the the texture of the paint didnt feel that rough like overspray does.
