things that i learnt from here.



things you do once or twice a year:



wash

clay

wash

polish

wax



my question is for the rest of the year, i just:



wash

wax



how about the cleaner wax and QD? when should i use them?



i spent another 4 hours today just to read SOME posts, cant find a straight answer, it's just too MANY.

Kenji there is no right or wrong .. I clay once a year in the spring but it would depend on the contaminants your car takes on.



After that its polish to satisfaction and wax.





The rest of the year I wash/wax and do remedial work. Like a lot in here I polish/wax a lot .. like bi-weekly more for the results and because I like to.



A lot will depend on your needs and how the car is treated.
 
Use the cleaner wax when you want to clean off all the other wax. That is something you shouldn't have to do very often. For the average Joe I would say its something you want to do whenever you are using the clay. And QD isn't so much of a step as it is something that you just do as needed. I keep QD in my car for cleaning off bird bombs or drips or something. Its not really part of my process at all.
 
I personally always use qd after a wash, and i qd very very meticulously if i'm going to wax. It's my last chance to get off all the dirt i might've missed in the wash before I wind up grinding it in with my wax applicator pad.



Cleaner wax is polish and wax, all in one.. It does both polishing and protecting in one step, but does both mediocrely. I use cleaner wax on my friends' cars for when I'm doing a quick job just to bang out a shiny car for them. That extra 5 - 10% of increased shine you'd get from dedicated polishes and waxes just wouldn't be appreciated by these people.

Yes, it is truely amazing how confusing so much information can become about such a simple subject.



Here is what you basically 'need' to do once or twice a year:



1- Clean

2- Polish

3- Wax



For the rest of the year you may 'want' to do any or all of the others.
