Consignment sales

Privitize it
My computer died so I've been gone awhile but anyway, a customer at work was looking to sell his MINT 94 Mustang convertable (V6  ) to the dealership. Being in NY and winter coming up, it isn't worth much. I talked to the salesman that was looking at the car and I suggested he try ebay, but he didn't know how. I figured I'd try and make some money off this. The salesman said he'd give my card to him if I came up with a price to detail his car and list it on ebay for him. So what I'd be doing is, full detail, photos, list it, and set up transportation. I'm thinking $175, $125 for the detail and $50 for the rest. I believe Dean does this so any advice is appreciated.

Consignment:

Here is what I believe is resonable to charge:

Listing fee for (2) 7 day listings : $100

Detail: $130 to $300

Final charge when vehicle sells: 5% of total sale price

Be careful not to have unrealistic expectations for what your vehicle will sell for on ebay. I have listed a few car that did not sell. Most people that are looking for a car on ebay are hoping to buy at around a wholesale price (bargain shoppers).

What does sell !!!

Low milage collectible and historic cars !!! Car that the consumer just cannot easily find locally. Also low milage high-end cars that have been babied their entire life. These cars will typically sell for higher than NADA, KBB, and Edmunds retail value !!! Lets face it if a customer is looking for a 0-15k mile 1989 Porsche 911 Turbo, he will pay a premium to have that particular car.

Good Luck !!!

I saw Dean's site the other day. I like the consignment idea. How do you go about finding customers who may want to use this service? I took a chance and called about a few cars I saw in the local want ads the other day.I had no takers so I think tommorow I will call about a few more cars and possibly offer to detail and list one w/o charging just as a test to see if I have any success.

I've sold 7 vehicles on ebay as well as quads, jetski's, rims, etc.

For vehicles, I charge...

$100 for the initial listing of the vehicle (including pics)

For me to list a vehicle, they must fill out a 2 page sheet with all areas of condition and options. At the end, they must sign 2 different paragraphs basically stating I'm a broker and they are they true seller...Any problems with the vehicle is their battle. I had it developed by a lawyer so my ass is covered :).

For Final value fees, I charge:

$0-250…………………………………………………………………...20% + EBay Fees
$251-2500……………………………………………………………….15% + EBay Fees
$2501-7500……………………………………………………………...10% + EBay Fees
$7501-10,000……………………………………………………………..5% + EBay Fees
$10,001-Up…………………………………………………….Negotiable % + EBay Fees

Let me know if you have any other questions.

This might be a good idea but I think now I'm starting out with the wrong car. Does anybody really WANT a 94 V6 Mustang? I'm still going to try and get him to detail it but I might let this one slide and use the off season to plan things out a bit more.

Dean: To tell you the truth, I haven't sold a vehicle in months. It has been mostly oversized rims (20" +) and stuff like that. I definatley do plan on using something to make it more presentable next time I put a vehicle up.

Good Luck on the auction...looks great :)

Sean:

When you get another car to sell please try carad. I saw some of your pics from detailing assignments, and carad would work really well for you. You have a natural photographic eye, and you know how to frame a shot real well.
Carad is a breeze to use also !!! Here is a car that I listed last month.

P.S. You can tell by the engine bay that I DID NOT detail this car !!!

Dean: Will do!

Thanks for the compliment.

Yeah the engine and the wheels. :( . People don't understand how much resale value a detail adds to a car.
