Considering wax on top of Zaino. Need Opinions.

I have a 2003 black car. I have done just the hood with 4 coats of Z5 with Z6 in between every coat. I was the car once a week. It is never parked under trees or in dirty areas. After each washing I pour bottled water over the car to get the minerals off the paint. The well water is horrible. But the paint always looks terrible. I have described it in another thread.



I always have to remove some type of spotting. But to do that I hence am removing the Z5. Would keeping a coat of wax on top the Zaino solve this problem? The spotting should then be in the wax and not the Z5, correct? If I keep a nice layer of wax on it I shoud be able to remove spotting every week and reapply wax to keep it protected.



Thoughts?
 
I think you are right to apply Wax to top Zaino. The wax will protect from the water spots.



You have to re-apply the wax very often.



Is a water softner an option for you? I live in Texas and we hava a similar problem but after I installed the water softer the problem is gone.



I read other posting that some rain water went thru the Z layers that is one reason I am using wax as a topper.

That probably has something to do with it. It also looks like the Zaino is pitting after less then a month. Do you mean an inline water softener? What wax do you use?

Yes, I have installed a water softer for the whole house (inline water softener).



I use P21S wax. :up

The water spots unless left for a long time will be on the last layer. I use the Zaino system too and no spots. Z2 should be your last coat. Thje water here is not bad but at my sisters place it is horrible and fast drying is the key.





The faster and better you can dry the car the less chance of it water spotting. Try this



1) Always wash in the shade

2) Keep the car wet while your washing it, in other words keep hosing it

3) Once done washing take the nozzle from the hose and run a gentle stream of water from it all over the car. This will pull 80% of the water off if the car is waxed.

4) Get an Absorber and hold it by 2 corners and drag it over the flat areas of the car. This will lift another 10% or so of the water off.

5) Use a good quality M/F towel to dry the rest of the car off starting with all the windows then hood/trunk/roof/doors in that order. Meguiars has a M/F towl bout 14' x 14" that I can dry my car off with in this manner with no ringing.

6) Do the Lower valances and grill work with the Absorber.

8) Use an old towel for the wheels and an old M/F for the door edges.

9) Rinse the Absorber and M/F very well when your done so they are ready for next time . I hang the M/F in my shop to dry .. the Absorber I keep wet in a pail.



The key to no water spots is the drying. The faster the better. I have a black Passat. Drying time is 10 Min including door edges and trunk edges. Also a good M/F towels leaves no water streaks to water spot.
 
The sounds just about exactly how I do it, but it still looks rotten. I blot, not drag the Absorber and then have to go over the whole car with vinegar/water with a M/F. But still the paint is spotty, pitty, speckles, whatever you can call it, ugly.
 
That product loooooks very interesting. I would guess that I could just use the Zaino soap and then rinse. The filters would get out the minerals I would still be much better off.



I am not sure I want to use their soap...:rolleyes:
 
Well, I just put Souveran over multi coats of Zaino. No big dramatic event though. It may look a bit wetter or shiny, but it's all personal preference.



It's not bad to top it as it acts as a sacrificial layer. As long as you maintain it, the Zaino should hold up.



Some waxes last longer than others.



As for poor water, do whatever you can to correct it.



For drying, I use a CWB, as this is by far the fastest way to get water off in a hurry. Followed by a waffel weave MF, and car is dry in no time. Yea, the CWB makes a horrific noise, but as long as you run it under clean water to make sure nothing is on it, it's softer than using a towel.



Give a wax a try, then you can work on the water problems at a later date. Just keep a good QD onhand.
