confused about Zaino

Ok, I asked this question on another forum and didn't get a complete answer so I will try here. I think I am going to buy from Zaino.

I plan on washing with Dawn, doing the claybar, then follow the prescribed steps on the Zaino website. On the website it says use Z1 or ZFX. Now my understanding is ZFX is an additive that makes the process faster. How do I use ZFX? It comes in a 2ml bottle so it must be an additive. Do I add ZFX to Z1 or to Z5 (i have a red car and a black car)? Enquiring minds want to know.:nixweiss

I did a quick search on Zaino and ZFX and it looks like you add the ZFX to the Z5. I'm not a Z user just yet so that is just an educated reply. ZFX is supposed to help the cure time of the Zaino on your car. You can actually use Z without it if you wanted to. ZFX is a relatively new product out there. It came out earlier this year if I remember right.

The ZFX comes in a box that contains 4 2 oz. mixing bottles, one of which contains a smaller (much) bottle with the ZFX.

Pour one to two oz. of Z2, Z3, or Z5 into one of the 2 oz. bottles.

Add 4 or 5 drops of ZFX per oz to the product (no more than 10 drops to 2 oz). NOTE: You don't add the ZFX to Z1 - the ZFX replaces the Z1

Shake the mixing bottle for 60 to 90 seconds

Let sit for 10 minutes or so.

Just before using shake for another 30 seconds.

For best results use the mixture within 6 hours.

The mixing bottle cannot be reused if the mixture remains in it for more than 12 hours

That's it.

Thanks for the replies. It was confusing because on the website it said use Z1 or ZFX then use the Z2, Z5 etc. I think I have it now.

I have a black Subaru that is going to need some work and a new redrock pearl Honda Pilot. I thought I would but the following:

Z2,Z5,Z6,Z7 and ZFX.

Sound correct?

Thanks

I'm not sure I quite understand, so forgive me if I'm stating the obvious, but the ZFX is an additive to Z2 & Z5, not something that is directly applied.

* Wash w/ Z7

* Remove swirls w/Z5 (some say Z5 is best for dark colors & don't use Z2)

* Top coats of Z2 when happy with effects of Z5

* Finish with light spray of Z6

When using ZFX you can apply a maximum of 3 coats of Z-whatever right after one another. If no ZFX you need to wait 24 hours between each layer.

Z5 willl not REMOVE swirls, it does have the ability to fill or hide minor swirls but it would not be accurate to say it removes swirls. If you have swirls then more surface prep needs to be done with an abrasive. Beginning with the mildest first. Something like 3M SMR. Z will show every flaw on a surface because of its optical clarity. It is essential to have the surface as perfect as possible for the best results.

Just learned about this fact during the Wednesday night chat. In addition, it seems like quite a few in the party applies Zaino by hand only. Heard about the time limit on using the ZFX and thought it'd be better to apply Zaino by a PC. Is it really true that 2-3 coats can be applied by hand only within the several hours span of the ZFX concotion? Or do most users make a new batch for every coat? Zaino has such high praise in autopia, does anyone have a photo of a white vehicle that has been Z'ed?

Much Aloha! :wavey

The time limit is not super critical. With ZFX, product curing is almost instant (let it set up for a few minutes if you are using it in humid weather). When you are done wiping off one coat, go ahead and slap on another. The max # of coats you can apply in one session is 3 so mix your Z5 or Z2 carefully; no sense in wasting lots of product.

I think the folks that apply Zaino by PC do it to ensure application is done super thin and very evenly. I use a dampened terry applicator and have no problems applying a thin coat. Try it by hand at first and learn how to do it properly that way before busting out the machinery. Zaino use has a pretty steep learning curve but it's rather short.
