Concrete dust....AGGHh!

tisteve

My back hurts...
A couple of days ago some construction truck accidentally dropped 5 or 6 bags of concrete mix on the road about 20 yards from our house. Of course the bags busted open so the guys couldn't pick them up, but they didn't even bother to call for a water truck or anything, they just left. With the moisture in the air, a dense cloud of concrete dust quickly formed. The result:

I was lucky to be able to get everything off my truck, since it was sealed with NXT...most of the dust blew off and then I 'extreme washed' it, but neighbors who were less than knowledgeable when it comes to paint care got a good amount of damage. Of course they asked me if I could polish their cars...Then saw the light when I recommended they seek a new paintjob, paid for by the construction company (a neighbor saw who did it) :angel_not

I could've lived with it if the company would have done something about rinsing the crete away, but I'm pissed...my mom's car and my roomate's care both got scratching because the paint was already a little rough, and even with extreme washing some of the dust stuck. More importantly, my roomate has lung problems. If she ends up in the hospital....

Well that's my rant for today, sorry but I needed to vent.

If its just the dust, wash the car with vinagar in the shade and dont let the morning dew get to it.

I use vinager to clean my levels, im a mason.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try it today since I have to wash them again :) Unfortunately this happened late at night, with much condensation in the wee hours of the morn...so the cars with no paint protection have a new hard coat

Use common sense, take it slow, let a panel at a time soak, and hose off.

The vinager isnt super strong, it might take a while. The stuff is fresh, so there is hope.

3Dog: An extreme wash is where you rinse the car down, and spray it with a foam gun, then you stick the foam nozzle in your mitt and wash one section at a time, rinse, move on to the next section after rinsing your mitt. I don't have a foam gun so I just stuck the hose in my mit and kept spritzing with Eagle One's bucketless wash. The point is to keep fluid flowing out of the glove and over the paint, which cleans the fibers and rinses the dirt off the paint all at once.

Jeff: I tried the vinegar a while ago, it worked well. I was able to get all of the dust off my truck except for the top of the cab, I forgot to wax it last week :ermm: I used clay magic clay and that took the rest of it off. Gosh I hope it rains tonight! The city's one water truck is broken down and the fire department won't come out to rinse the road. It's not as bad now but I'm probably going to have to wash n clay it again next weekend. Oh and for my roomate's car, the coin wash worked well. It took me 3 wash/rinse passes but I got it mostly clean. Thanks again Jeff :)
