Just finished setting up my grandparents new computer. Its like a 3.2 ghz P4 with hyperthreading tech. Gig of RAM, 17" LCD screen, crappy speakers, but they're old so it doesn't matter. I spend lots of time here, so its alright, but I wish they would have gotten the full package for high speed internet. This is quick for browsing, but when it comes to uploading, I sat here for 4 minutes on this single picture. :p

Well, anyways, if any one got a new computer recently, post 'em up. :)

i have a custom AMD setup i built. over clocked to 2.2GHz, IGB corsair platinum pc3200, dual monitors 17" flat panel, 19" flat screen, enermax psu, thermaltake cpu heatsink, antec fans, server full tower case, round cables, DVDburner/CD burner, aux dvd/cd drive, dual HDD (IDE :( ) want to go SATA, belkin UPS, etc

try to get pics later or something

Notice the image is stored on the Fedora forum gallery. Just installed FC3 last night and am still trying to get through the 255 updates :D

I had been running RH 9 and may still go with RHE Workstation but, I wanted to at least try Fedora first. What do you think of it?

I had my old college room mate build me my computer.

(cooled with Thermal take SLK900 and 92mm Vantec

Stealth fan, had a Tornado in there before.)

ATI Radeon 9600XT video card

Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card

Creative Inspire 6600 6.1 surround sound system

80 gig Western Digital JB series hard drive

160 gig Western Digital External media center hard drive

Motorola 802.11g wireless network card

Samsung 910T 19" LCD monitor

Logitech LX700 wireless keyboard and mouse set.

I don't use a chair, my bed is in the middle of the room.

I am currently running FC3, and have been with Fedora since Core 1. I like it alot. Was one of the "original" members of Fedora forum, I think i was in like the first couple hundred members about a month after it launched. It has really come a long way since FC1. I prefer Fedora to mandrake or Suse just because it is waht I am used to, I use it and I like it. My only compalint is the crappy media support, but overall it isn't too nothing unworkable.

I haven't updated in a long time, I'm kind of scared to know how many updates I have waiting, lol.

I have been running Red Hat since version 6.2 first came out. I have run every version since including the Enterprise editions when I had my consulting business. I am more than a little dissapointed with the direction Red Hat chose but, have not found a distribution that I like better. I am probably going to go with Red Hat Enterprise edition 4 but, wanted to give Fedora a try.

I am not one that likes the bleeding edge which is why it took me so long to give Fedora a try :D

This is the new Tiger OS from Apple with an Australian sunset shot I found on the web. I alternate this with Porsche pictures.

I may try to see if I can take a shot of my screen with dashboard widgets displayed.

Have you ever tried Debian "stable"? The release cycle is 12-18 months I believe, so it lags behind quite a bit, but is also very (and I mean VERY) stable. Maybe you've tried it, I dont know, but it is just another option. You might want to try a debian based devel too, like ubuntu or mephis. Personally, I think part of the "fun" in linux is trying to figure stuff out, but then again I am just a hobbyist, and always have windows to fall back on if I royally screw FC up. I dont have anything really critical on that partition, so if I mess it up, reformat and reinstall. I just use it as a workstation/desktop and something to play with and learn from. If I was using it in a business environment, yeah, I probably would have a different attitude.

You can make Fedora very stable though. I know after about 4-6 hours after the initial install, I had FC3 working and stable. Didn't have any problems whatsoever, untill I tried to update and then all hell broke loose. Took about 3 hours to fix the system that time, but I just did it again yesterday and "fixed" all the broken programs in under 45 minutes. Fedora may seem "bleeding edge" but the actual releases are pretty stable. The test releases I'm a little leary of, but that's just me.

Just out of curiosity, what were you referring to in Red Hat's new direction? Making Fedora in general, or the new Fedora Foundation. Just trying to see where you are coming from, maybe come up with a new distro for you :)

Anyways, sorry of I hijacked this thread with my pic hosted from Fedoraforum :D

It is a couple of years old but still gets the job done. 2.5 GHz P4, 512 MB ram, dvd & cd-r/rw, zip 250, etc. Printer is a Canon iP5000 (excellent photo printer).

Background picture is from a small beach in our neighborhood.
