I'm looking into getting some new compound. Been using 3M for a while and looking to try others. Wanted to know what you guys think and open to other suggestions.

Poorboy's SSR set, 2.5, 2,1

Optimum set, but dont really know the difference between hyper and optimum

Mezerna set

Thanks ahead!

chu- Welcome to Autopia!

I really like the old 3M PI-III RC 05933 myself...

What are you trying to correct? "Compounds" can vary greatly, from the sorta-mild 05933 to stuff that's liquid sandpaper.

Are you working by PC or rotary?

For sorta-serious correction I'd look into Hi-Temp's EC and HC, preferably mixed with a little OCP, at least the EC.

No reason why you have to pick one product line for everything...these days I steer people towards H-T, Optimum, and Menzerna/BF. Each line offers a lot of choices.

Thanks.. I'm not dead set on one product line. I dont have any problems with my car that some fine polish won't take out. I just want a set of polish just in case. Oh, I'm using a Makita

Optimum has been my go to Polish lately. There is no dusting and it can be worked longer without drying out.

You cant go wrong with Optimum or Menzerna, though Ive never used Menzerna, the results that fellow Autopians get are on par with Optimum.

Personally, I couldn't live without OHC or OP. OHC definitely has some good cut to it, the only negative thing I can say about it is that it gums up the pad easily if your not careful. In most cases I think OHC finishes down LSP ready when using and Orange pad or lighter (except black cars!). OP is my go to for removing compound haze or mild swirl marks.

IMHO Menzerna's FPII is a superior finishing polish to OCP, however OCP offers better overall swirl removal. Usually I go FPII for finishing, OCP for moderate marring, HT HC if anything heavier than the O and a finishing pad is needed.

heres whats great about optimum . . .

you buy the whole line right . . .

you end up liking the way it works, but find you need a more agressive compound.

now you get yourself some Hi temp like ACCUMULATOR suggested, and now you can mix the Optimum product with the HI temp . . . giving you longer workign time. . .

Optimum will work for a good majority of finishes you do, but some (if you chek out the click and brag before and after pics people post there) finishes will need a more agressive product.

Menzurna is also super savv . . . but one may find OPtimum a tad more user and sun friendly . . . super long working time.

chu,

Optimum just started shiping the new Hyper Compound formula. I think you would like it. More agressive than the org formula and will finish the same or better. I don't know how it works with a pc. You said you were useing a Makita so I'm assuming you use a rotary. If you order some pick up an orange pad. I use lake country VC. Works very well with these.

The new Hyper Compound works well with a pc. I tried it out earlier today. I used it with an orange pad and it worked great. No dusting as usual!
