compound by hand for mild stains?

i'm looking for a gentle compound that i can use to remove mild stains on my mustang, there's a couple of small surface scratches and spots of road tar, any suggestions? also i don't own a buffer nor do i want to orbitally buff my new paint so i need something that i can just apply by hand and wipe off before i wax.

at the detail shop i used to work at we used TRT buffing compound and it worked great but i can't seem to find it anywhere if anyone knows where i can order TRT products that would be great too.
 
There are different products. I think Farecla G6 (or G10 for lighter buffing) is a great spot product to use by hand on individual spots and stains. But...
Klasse All-in-One is a great by hand product (called KAIO on here, or AIO). Go with it if you can.
As for the tar, you'll need to do a tar treatment, and perhaps a clay treatment--don't worry, it's easy. Shop the sponsors online here, or go to a car care shop.
 
Welcome to DC. I agree with PEI. Wash and use a tar remover then clay. Use something like Klasse as PEI advised. All of this can be done by hand. If the scratches are too deep they may have to be removed by machine. Use the search option and you will learn more than enough to fix these problems and future problems you may have.
 
I agree and disagree. I agree that a good wash, tar remover and claying will be beneficial but I'm not sure AIO would be the best product to use. The Klasse AIO won't do any defect removal so if you have defects to be removed (swirls, light scratches, cob webs) they will still be there. I haven't used Meguiars Scratch X but I've heard that is a good product to use by hand because it corrects defects and offers protection. Other than that, I personally feel that you are limited and at a disadvantage for doing work by hand. I too did things by hand but after using a PC and now rotary I will never go back. You can use WD 40 or stoners tarminator to remove the immediate tar until you find what your looking for. spray the WD40 on the tar let it sit a minute or until you see the tar start to break down,the stuff works and very well i might add without causing any harm to your paint..

If you don't own a PC and can't afford to pay full price. You can go on Autopia Abay .this is a place you will find where people get rid of some items they have for whatever reason. You can also go on Megs On Line and in their forums they have a trade and sell. just becareful and ask many questions and be sure the seller is a regular with a long history on either forum, A good Rep also helps..
 
you can use scratch-x by hand, although it usualy takes 3 or 4 applications to notice a difference. Its a good product, just make sure you wash, de-tar, and clay first
 
btw, a couple of things:
-any actual abrasive polish or rubbing compound you will actually have to rub to make it work, and more than one app (like Five Star said)
-almost any tar remover will make your clay go wonky; don't fret about that, just clay the top panels first, then the bottom ones where you do tar removal, and keep flipping the clay (use the search for "clay" for instructions/tips)
-Budman is right, KAIO will only take out minor imperfections
 
thanks for the advice, i forgot about wd40, i think i'll try that when i detail my car this weekend, that should do it, i have a nice coat of wax on my car
(4 star ultimate) so most everything just washes right off, as for the tar it's a little stubborn and even when i get the little clumps off there still is a black stain in the paint, hopefully the wd40 will take care of that.

if that doesn't work i'll go the clay bar route. can i just clay a couple of spots or do i need to do the entire car all at once?
