Completly Dissapointed

Guys today I decided to test out my pc, pads, products and technique on my mom's 02 navy blue chevy cavalier. It has some light scratches which I was sure will go out after some polish. After usng this process nutting happened scratches still there and there wasn't any notable gloss, deepness or shine. Process:

wash with dawn

clay with clay magic

wash again

Car Brite Perfect Cut with a blue polishing pad starting at pc spd 3 working to 6

wipe off with mf

Meguiar's Deep Crystal Polish step 2 pc at 3-6

wipe off with mf

cheapo carnauba wax (I used because I saw no improvement until this step)

What went wrong? pads? products? technique?

How long did you worked in the product?

According to CB, the Perfect Cut is a fairly mild polish and using this with a polishing pad might be a too weak combo.

Go up in product and/or pad aggressiveness and work the product in longer.

what kind of pads are you using?

Both blue pads that I have are for LSP's. They are Sonus SFX pads and Lake Country Variable contour pads. If this is the case for you it's not a surprise that you didn't get any results.

Meg's deep crystal polish is probably too mild to do any correcting of your type.

You probably need to step up to another polish and possibly another pad combo.

Please post specifics about the pads and what you used them with.

How much pressure were you applying to the PC? How fast or slow were you moving the PC across the paint? How large an area did you work at a time? How much product did you use? If you can answer those questions, we can help analyze what areas you can improve on.

My guesses:

1) you applied little to no pressure

2) you used too much product and/or too little time

3) the swirls/scratches are deeper than you think they are

4) you used mild products that aren't meant to be much in the way of scratch removal

Yeah, it sounds like you didn't go aggressive enough. You'd be surprised what it takes to get out most marring, I've never ended up using less than SSR2.5 or Menzerna IP on a car that wasn't mine. Try IP/orange pad then FPII/green pad or SSR2.5/green then SSR1/green. Try some of the PC videos on Meguiar's (I think) website, they helped me immensly when I was starting out.

The only blue pads I've got are the Propel pads. Though I'm not familiar with the CarBrite product, AFAIK the blue pad isn't intended to going to do any defect correction. You need to step up with your pad.

The propel blue would work nicely with the DC step 2 which is, according to Megauir's, a pure polish. That is it has not correcting properties, but will add a really nice finishing gloss.
