Comparison of Speeds on PC

Hello,

I just wanted to know if anyone can explain what each speeds accomplishes with a PC. I have not heard much about using low speeds, 1-4 on the PC, but everyone seems to use only 5 or 6.



Could you please clarify and explain which speeds do what?

I typically use speed 4 for spreading the product around a little then immediately bump to 5-6 for polishing and removing defects. I have found that speed 5 works better for me than 6.



Polishing and real defect removal will be all but impossible at low speeds, i.e. anything at 3 or below really. Just won't generate enough polishing action or break the polish down at low speed.
 
1 - fling the water out of my pads after washing

2 - dont use

3 - spreading compounds, applying waxes

4 - applying thinner compounds

5 - using 4" pads with compounds

6 - working in compounds
 
I use speed 4 for applying waxes and 4-4.5 for some one-steps like AIO. Mike Phillips sometimes uses even slower speeds with products like NXT when he's working on delicate finishes. An old Allard he did for auction-prep (green single stage), comes to mind; IIRC he used speeds like 2 and 3 on it as he didn't want to risk any damage at all.
