Compared Meg's #80 to VM kind of long

I got some Megâ€â„¢s #80 last week at an automotive paint shop. I was there getting clay magic and saw the Megâ€â„¢s and wanted to try something new. From what I had read and been told it was a lot like Vanilla Moose, only a little more abrasive.

Well I have been telling my mom that I would detail her car (99 Accord) for a while, and she brought it down this weekend. The car hasnâ€â„¢t been detailed in a couple of years. She washes it half a dozen times or so a year and thatâ€â„¢s all.

Anyway let me get to it. I clayed the whole car. Then I started applying the Megâ€â„¢s #80, with a white polishing pad, via my pc, a section at a time. I worked it in at speed 4 and then turned it up to 5 and worked it till it started to clear, just as it dusted. Then removed it by hand. It was kind of a PITA to get off. I was leaving product and having to go back and rub & look, and rub some more to get it all off. A lot of work considering how long I worked it in, I thought. I did about half the car like this, thinking the whole time the paint was in bad shape and that is why it was hard to remove ( compared to VM, PwC Zaino, EX-P, all the things I have tried lately). Well I started thing, that this would be a good chance to try something else, and compare. So I reached for the VM. I did the second half of the car with VM.

The VM went on and broke down twice as easy! Came off real easy, didnâ€â„¢t have to keep going over spots to find what I missed.

The VM was slicker than the #80. Noticeably slicker.

The #80 did have a little deeper and wetter look to it though. Not a lot but it was noticeable if you stared at it.

I topped the car with EX-P, not a lot of difference in any category after that. It was cloudy when I got done so the pictures donâ€â„¢t tell the whole story. Sorry.

Now I am just learning, and trying new stuff all the time. And I might not even be comparing apples to apples here with #80 and VM. This is just what I noticed. Maybe some of the others will offer up some info.

To me the VM wins 2 to 1. Slickness and easy of use. #80 has the deepest wettest look though.

I will try the #80 again on a dark car, or when I need a little more bit, but for my white Cobra, VM it is. Its just to easy to use, and I like it to be slick!

Don't work #80 until it begins to dust, just until it begins to get clear. Should come off very easy at that point. I do agree that #80 finishes with a very wet look and VM tends to be a bit more reflective. Not huge differences though, as you mentioned.

The car looks really good. Very rich and deep finish.

Car looks good B.C.; Iâ€â„¢ll bet your mom was very pleased!

VM is a really nice product, so easy to use and looks very nice.

#80 is more aggressive than VM and will clean up more paint defects. I suspect part of the problem you had with #80 was working it too long. #80 breaks down pretty fast and doesnâ€â„¢t need to be worked like DACP. Instead of working it until it starts to dust I stop about when it changes color (clear or sometimes pink), and that doesnâ€â„¢t really take very long, it should be fairly easy to buff off with a MF at that point.

casino that car looks great. this last weekend i used meg's #80 and i noticed a big difference. before that i had used Klasse AIO and it was ok but the #80 made a real difference (metalic silver lex gs). but as they say all over this board you start with the least abrasive and work up, i learned AIO alone didnt cut it so this time i move to the 80.

i followed up the 80 with AIO then (all done with my pc) then applied 1 coat of P21s by hand and WOW - like glass. My experience was that the 80 came off pretty easy, maybe it depends on the weather, Im in calif and we had a warm weekend.

and i have to take this opportunity to give kudos to PLEXUS, that stuff is great. if you have the chance I would suggest buying a can. the instrument panel and fake wood trim inside the car has a deep wet look and gloss to them, excellent at repelling dust also.

Car looks great. I had the same experience with #80, but did everything by hand. For application/removal I like VM way better.
