Please let me know your opinions. Santa is bringing me a PC with the Sonus pads kit from the Autopia store and some DACP.

My car cover is pretty rough and will probably err, definitely will make a mess out of my black GN through the winter as it sits outside in "hibernation". I plan on these steps to remove the "mess" and restore the brilliant black paint it has. I'm not sure on the pads to use with these products, so please direct me.



DACP - pad?

SSR1 - pad?

GEPC - finishing pad?

P21S - by hand



First three steps applied with a PC of course, last step by hand

Not sure if DACP-SSR1 is too big a jump, you *might* need an intermediate step between them (but probably not).



DACP- try a polishing pad first, if needed use a cutting pad then go back to the polishing one.



SSR1- Polishing pad.



GEPC- I'd use a polishing pad but others use a finishing pad.



FWIW, there are other products that *I* prefer over the DACP. I'd use 3m PI-III RC (pn 05933) instead if it were mine, more user-friendly and *THIS IS JUST IMO* better suited to use by hand/PC.
 
To ease the transition, what if I use SSR1 with a cutting pad or would there be a better polish than SSR1 to use. I haven't purchased that yet. The other products I already have.

I'm sorta hesitant to talk about SSR1 as I don't/haven't used it, but I don't like to use mild products with aggressive pads. I'd rather go the other way (aggressive product/mild pad). Using an aggressive pad with the SSR1 won't make it do more than the polish is capable of, it'll just risk micromarring from the pad.
 
Thanks Accumulator. You are a wealth of info as usual. What you say makes complete sense.

Is there a mild product that you prefer to use? I've never used SSR1 myself, I've just read a bunch about it on here and decided I may give it a try.
 
My three mild polishes are Griot's Machine Polish #3 (sorta just using up what I've had around for years), 3M PI-III MG (my go-to mild polish that I *always* have on hand), and 1Z Metallic Polish (Pro version), which is *very* mild. I'd get some of the PI-III MG (pn 05937) if I were you but if your paint is *very* soft you might be OK with the 1Z MP. I'd get either of those or both.
