color change??

is there a product that you know of that will change the color of a car slightly? the reason i ask is that, i used to own a maroon colored honda and waxed the crap outta that bad boy every week. after the years, the color really looked different from other maroon hondas out there, same paint code and everything. i had a lot of compliments on my "new" paint job, but when in fact i never had a new paint job or custom paint job. does waxing your car religiously slowly change the overall color of it ever so slightly??

I wouldn't think so, what year is the car? Is it clearcoated?

Maybe all the other cars have just oxidized.

The only difference I ever noticed is then when my car is waxed the blue looks alot brighter, and deeper, but as far as changing the color I doubt it, unless it's not clearcoated and you're wearing all the paint off.

low- Different waxes/sealants CAN impart a surprisingly different look. My two silver Audis (same paint code) look like totally different colors when side-by-side due to the use of different products.

But generally, I'm with ERIK. Your car, being well-protected, hasn't "changed" while the typical maroon car WILL change with exposure/neglect.

i had this with my old Honda Civic. It was a metallic light blue in 1990. When I see other Civics from that year, most of them look much lighter, almost a blue tinted silver. When I get closer I realize most of them are completely flat, a dead finish. I would imagine that by using quality protectants over the years, you've prevented much of the baking and oxidizing that other cars of that vintage have been through. So, your finish would be more true to the original color.

my honda was 1990...i figured that perhaps i did keep it in better shape than the other cars with the same color. i did find it very strange and flattering though when people asked about how much i paid for the paint. however back then i didnt even care what kind of wax/polish i would use..i bought what was cheap and what gave me that smooth feel to it when finished. one time i pulled up to the dealership and one guy asked about the paint. i told him that i was the stock color as he didnt believe me, so i showed him the paint sticker on the door. he even had another car like mine on the lot (used) and we compared...we concluded that whatever i did (or didnt do..LOL) had some weird affect on the paint. oh well, just a curious thought that i carry around when it comes to car detailing.

Maybe try peeling off a sticker or piece of trim from another maroon Honda of the same age and see if it looks the same underneath as your paint! :D I'm going along with the preservation theory. :xyxthumbs
